~Frederick Carile

Herren Meningen and Carile are added to the Presidential ballot. Herr von Bavel-Timmermans can, if he so wishes, run for the office as well, although given his party leader's vehement objection, he may wish to reconsider. The HUN has the maximum number of candidates at this time.

Chief Justice of the Supreme Court

I will run no matter the opinion of my party leader.

F v. B-T

1) Do we negotiate with the socialists or disperse them by force?- Negotiate

2) Shall we send an expedition to the Valley of the Kings?- Ja

3) Do we enact the Italian Home Rule Act?- No vote - Assembly

4) Shall we use government funding to cover the cost of Health Care?- Ja

5) Shall an oath of loyalty be demanded of all sitting members of the Reichstag?- Nein

Hals Gutfreund, Minister of War and NLPD member of the Assembly

I must beg the forgiveness of my fellows in this government. I had been among those calling for civility and shaming those who would cry treason in the past. It would seem those I opposed were wrong only in how little they saw of traitors in Germany.

No negotiation is acceptable in this crisis, not for the current rebels and not for imagined troublemakers to come. If any member of the Reichstag cannot bring themselves to oppose the vile mass of thugs polluting our German cities, they should be removed from office immediately.

The two remaining items are so petty in comparison that I am almost disturbed that they are to be considered at the same time. Still, I have no objection to either.

A few issues are now close enough to call, regardless of the position of remaining votes:

Germany will send an expedition to the Valley of the Kings. Assuming UAI and DDA abstention in the Assembly, it still passes with 314 votes to only 42 against. It also passes the Conclave easily, 85 votes to 15 against.
Home Rule for Italy is defeated, 42 votes in favor to 58 votes against.

The other issues are too close to call. If somebody could find Assemblymen van Kloetinge and Anderson, that would greatly expedite matters.

We have, at present, 8 presidential candidates. The only party without at least one candidate thus far is the Imperialists.

Chief Justice of the Supreme Court

((And the Imperialists will continue to not provide a candidate for Reichpresident as long as there are only two of us. It would seem kind of silly if one of us became Reichpresident and every Imperialist in his house just mysteriously vanished. :p))

A young monarcho-anarcho-communist, Velten Hanbauer, pontificating from a barricade in Nurnberg

...but it was not always so, my brothers! There was a time before Republics, before mortgages and rent-seekers, before capitalists and bourgeouisie! A time before the usupers and the 'politicians' ousted the rightful King, and made their own empire of weasels and lawyers! A time when the land was held in common by all men, and no man held himself 'better' than his neighbour just because he was richer! A time not of the written jargon of Law, but of the spoken word of Honour! A time of freedom, and legitimate Hohenzollern rule!

And yes, you may scorn! A time long gone, you say. An empty dream, you say! Don't you see? We are the People! We outnumber the Politicians, we don't need them, we've already kicked them out of their hole like rats, as they go skulking off to Vienna or Nassau or God knows where. We can now build whatever world we want, it's in our very grasp!

And so, my brothers, I call for the restoration of the true German nation. I call for the siezure of all land from its so-called 'owners', to be held in common by the People once more. And not only the farmland, but the factories and the means of production, to be used for the good of all the People! And I call for the immediate dissolution of all parliaments, all Stadtholders, all judges, all elected Politicians, all government, and all the lawyers - and the restoration of the True King Ferdinand von Hohenzollern, the one and sole ruler and protector of the nation!

For We are the People, and we shall not be denied!

(:)rofl: .Thats not exactly what Ferdinand wants, but you will see what happens to government if he gains power.))

((Yes, I know. But Velten Hanbauer doesn't really care what King Ferdinand wants - because he knows what *he* wants, and what he wants is his Romanticist communo-monarcho-anarchist utopia! And if he brings the New Colognians into disrepute or confusion in the process... well, you win some, you lose some.

I'm taking it that, this being basically a civil war and all, you've got all sorts of radicals springing up out of the woodwork with a wide range of New Ideas. And since monarcho-socialism seems to be one of those, I figured I'd see what sort of actual rhetorical basis I could think of for such an ideology. Maybe these anarchist neo-jacobites will turn up again later on in the narrative, writing novels and painting preraphaelite paintings and waxing reactionary from soapboxes. We'll see.))

((Also,Kaiser. We would be the second German Empire, not some silly kingdom :p ))

((Admin hat on.))

We had some huge abstentions, mostly due to Gen. Marshall failing to vote. Therefore, I am interpreting law passage as "50% of those parties who chose to vote." Otherwise, an abstention is as good as a "no" vote.

((Admin hat off.))

The 48 hour deadline has passed. The results on the remaining issues are as follows:

Although the Conclave was willing to negotiate (53 votes to 47), the Assembly wanted no part of it (163 votes to 193). Therefore, the German Army shall put down the uprising.
Basic health care, funded by the government, is now mandatory for every German. It passes in the Assembly 197 votes to 159 and in the Conclave 85 votes to 15.
Finally, all members of the Reichstag must take an oath of loyalty to the Republic or lose their positions. This measure passed 193 votes to 121 in the Assembly and 79 votes to 15 in the Conclave.

The Supreme Court rules that any Reichstag members may swear by anything they wish, and may compose their own individual oaths, but it must clearly indicate swearing to "the Republic of Germany." ((You do not need to actually swear in-thread if you do not wish. You can simply say "I so swear" and we can move on. :)))

Chief Justice of the Supreme Court

((I am going to play now and will, hopefully, update soon.))

I swear my and my family's continued loyalty to the Republic of Germany.

Wilhelm von Vandenburg in a letter to the Reichstag:

It is good to hear word that the Reichstag has decided that decisive action must be taken. I will ensure that I join the men in the first strike to reclaim Nürnberg, and I will make it my personal mission to take back the Reichstag building. These rebel scum will be removed from our capital.

I also wish to notify my fellow members of the Reichstag that I have sworn an oath to the Republic of Germany before a priest of the German Catholic Church and a certified clerk of the Reichstag who escaped Nürnberg before the rebellion broke out. I have included a signed declaration on another page if anyone doubts my sincerity.

- Wilhelm von Vandenburg

((Not an easy request asking a monarchist to swear an oath to a republic. I was hoping for the oath to be to Germany, not the Republic of Germany. Oh well. :p))
