But David still wins, does he not? And that is the important bit, because in the end, that's all anyone cares about.

I would support means of providing subsidies to the Tverian war effort.

Subsidies would be the best to help this new nation to get on its feet and beat back Poland.

Actually, strictly speaking, they didn't.

I've briefly examined the the treaty concluding the Tverian Liberation War. It describes, quite thoroughly, the mutual five-year truces between all belligerents of that conflict. However, strictly speaking, the Republic of Tver was not a belligerent in the Liberation War, since it was only recognised by the international community as a state after the armistace. And so, by quirk of legal terminology, no legal truce existed between Tver and Poland.

And while the wording of the treaty binds Poland to recognise the existence of the Republic of Tver, it has no similar terms concerning its borders. And so, under international law, Poland is quite within its rights to declare a state of war with Tver over border disputes, so long as such casus belli only threaten to diminish the state of Tver and not utterly conquer it.

I agree that Poland are going quite firmly against the spirit - if not the word - of the treaty. But if we were to declare war with Poland, we would be going against both word and spirit - and rightly bring down the condemnation of the nations as Tyrant of Europe.

But I would encourage us all to consider the Polish-Tverian war from broader perspectives than that from Nürnberg. Consider what the neutral powers see of Poland - ever the old oppressor of the Tverian people, she sets aside former agreements in order to make war against them again, trying to desperately cling to some of her former stature. And the Tverian people stand against her! Alone and triumphant, no more will they fall beneath her heels. Poland is fallen, they will say! Fallen and crushed is she from her former position as a Great Power; she cannot stand against a nation not five years old.

And with that in mind, I think the German Republic should be wary before throwing our financial or military support behind Tver. Goliath slain by David's stone is a great story; Goliath slain by David wielding a Roman ballista, not so great.

You clearly have not read the treaty that I helped write. In the treaty it clearly stated that Poland was to recognize Tverian sovereignty and respect the borders stipulated by the treaty. The next time you wish to dispute matters on which you are no authority, please do not bother me with your ramblings.

Bismarck, rectify this mistake. We were outfoxed at the diplomatic table!

((lol, it's goofy Vicky mechanics that they are desperately trying to provide an explanation for))

((Goddammit LK and PTSnoop. I was so confused.))
Clearly we must provide subsidies to the Tverians. Theirs is a noble cause, and any way short of war that we can help them must be pursued.

((In all seriousness, I don't think there's a single NS member left in this AAR but me, since Gutfreund just defected to the NLPD.))

((Join the club. I'm pretty sure I'm the only Imperialist left in the Assembly. All the kids these days are into those newfangled socialist and liberal ideas. No respect for the old ways!))

It would indeed be tragic to see Tver fall after fighting so hard to win them their freedom. Subsidies seems like a sensible idea without going so far as to break international law.

"It appears that the treat 'ice cream' is all the rage around Germany. Apparently you can choose many different flavor so and toppings to complement your taste buds. It seems that the pervasive influence of ice cream has creepy into politics. Now one can choose many different flavors of politics with different toppings. Don't feel like tasting conservatism with a topping if state capitalism? Try conservatism with free trade instead. How about liberalism with a side of jingoism? It is simply wonderful that we have all these delicious political flavors to choose from and discard when we get bored."

"There can be no substitute for a full hand of democracy. A full house is better than an empty house. I would rather there be three conservative parties cooperating, than one party torn asunder by political intrigue and rivalry."

Only three conservative parties? This sounds like a Multi-party dictatorship if you ask me Herr Bismarck. Also you ask what the differences between the NLPD and the New Society is, and I have an answer. You want a full blown status quo policy where nothing changes. While the NLPD wants change in both social and political reforms, and also integration the different cultures of the Republic. Either that or giving them more autonomy. Also a restricted free party where our capitalist build our factories and are subsidies by the government.

Herr von Schwaben, the NLPD is nothing but the New Society, with a couple sops thrown to the poor. You promise reforms, but this will only raise the expectations of the people to crush them again. Integration, you say? Is this not assimilation? And then in the next sentence you promise autonomy. You must go on one or the other, you cannot be flip-flopping between policies.

Herr Albrect, I'm not "flip-flopping between different policies", no, no, maybe I didn't make myself clear enough. If integration or as you call it, assimilation((I do think it is the same thing, right?) fails it would be wiser to grant these people more autonomy if the region of course, is not too much worth((if this is even possible)). Also, compairing the NLPD to the New Society is still and will always be a sham. Even when I was Head of the Corps of the Gendarmerie, my political enemies never trusted me, and always wanted me gone. I can feel this is what you will continue to do, as long as I live. And believe me, reforms will come or the people will take power themselves, from fools as you.

Secret ballots. As I have stated before,The way to equality starts with the extension of liberties on the political front.

Heinrich von Gogh, Leader of the SDAP

Looking over to the leader of the SDAP, Hugo Unger could only shake his head. "Yes, yes. We will vote on Secret Ballots. Thank you for another wonderful addition to our discussion Herr Gogh."

((Since this is not a game rule but an AAR rule, why not change the current rule from two terms per player to two terms per character?))
