I'm the duke of York.
King Richard I of the house of Normandy rules England (rules is a big world, it's a quasi permanent civil war, continuing 60 years after Norman invasion).
Richard I who happens to be homosexual has only one heir, his uncle William, homosexual too, more aged than him and who seem to have no heir.
As the house of normandy is going to disappear (I think), I don't join the many rebellions the remnants of the Godwin launch continuously, and wait for them to die of old age to see what happen (wait a looong time as everyone live surprisingly old in this family).
Anyway Richard finally dies at the age of 71 and William II, 78 years old, inherit. But, out of nowhere (he had none displayed when he was earl, it may be due to different laws), he now has an heir (Robert, 69 yr old, the descendant of a cousin they forgot in some french court before the invasion it seems).
Losing patience I decide to start a war to depose William and crown Robert (and because I need to lower the crown autority to be able to attack Scotland to avoid to lose some claims I forged there).
Soon after my war started William is excommunicated and the duchess of Brittany helped by some irish counts starts an excommunication war.
At the same time the dukes of Bedford, Hereford and Oxford launch the usual "war for england" in the name of the grandgrandgrandgrandgrand son of Godwin (unlike the Normandy, the Godwins have very short lives as they all end in prison).
So... Everyone fight during 5 years or so. And at some point, the king proposes me peace.
The only problem is, it's no longer the same king. Instead of William II proposing to let me crown Robert, I got Robert proposing to let me re-crown William II (in fact the AI probably accepted the peace with Brittany just before proposing me one, so the king is already replaced). As I don't want to lose prestige (and my goal was just to lower crown autority anyway), I accept. So, William II, 84yr old succeed to his heir.
A strange side effect of these peaces, is that the 3 ...fords (the pro godwin dukes) who made a white peace (forgot with which king) are now independant (don't understand why, their war was for england not for independance), and the king has no claim on them. And that Robert was now an english duke (he kept a duchy from the millisecond he was king).
And it's not the last strange thing in this game. Being crowned 2 times seem to have changed the appetites of William II somewhat. At the age of 85, he remarries (strangely chosing the daughter of one of the new independant dukes), and despite remaining homosexual and having been injured in the war makes two sons to his 16 year old wife before dying with the title "the old" at 91. I think I'll never see the end of de Normandy family.
