Well, there is nothing really to work out, it's the 'Underworld Invasion'. The guys at the front are clearly 'Sparkly Vampires Unit Pack'(See how they shine more than the rest?), the guys behind the wagon are 'Witches and Wizards Unit Pack'(you can tell from the robes). Just look at the picture and imagine the songs of the northern trolls playing as you look, it's going to be great.

You missed the 2 small puffs of blackened smoke top right; this is obviously the tip of a jet of fire being projected from a dragon just out of frame.

The caravans are carrying the village gold to be given as tribute to the dragon, so as to avert his wrath.

I agree it was well written and kind of made me want to read the story. The only problem is, the Scottish did not wear kilts during this time period, (not for almost a hundred years after the end date).

There I was happy conquering the British Isles as the MacAilpins, content that my warriors and nobility wore tartan dresses, now you've ruined Scotland for me, just like the Scots ruined Scotland!

The Scots basically are the English. Or the Saxons at least. The English just compounded the problems the Scots created. You see the Duchy of Lothian with its Anglo-Saxon culture? Those are basically the "Scots".

Nope, those are Lowlanders. The Scots were Irishmen who merged with the Picts to the north, before taking over the Saxon lowlands. Modern Scottish people are a mix of Saxons, Picts, Scots and Strathclyders. 'Course, I imagine that they don't really like to talk about the Saxon parts of their origins.

The Scots language is descended from Anglo-Saxon, and the lowlanders appear to have a relatively consistent lineage of being Saxon to the present day. I agree that the Highlanders are a Gaelic/Pictish mix, but the Scots are at best an admixture of the people of Strathclyde (which the game groups with the Welsh) and the lowlanders who replaced other Britons centuries before. A "Scot" in those terms, is a lowlander, while a Highlander is Scottish Gaelic, or just Gaelic.
