Guys, just gave up on a game screaming, As Mexico in VIP did really well, CSA secedes, I switch to CSA, kick USA's ass, get border states, then switch back to Mexico, cleaning up the mess the AI left. Everything is back in order, until the USA DOW's CSA again, I get invited into alliance with CSA, proceed to 'liberate' Alta California. Now...... every single province I occupy gets partisans, which turn out to be fully staffed, operational divisions with digging in equipment and machine guns. This, of course, is crap, some guys pissed off because there's some mexicans running through LA and San Fransisco do NOT form their 10.000 strong fully decked out 'instant kick ass army'. Make partisans irregulars and we're al cool.

Other things: congratulations to the VIP crew, you guys RULE, the game just keeps getting better and better! small thing: I can't get Arkansas and Missouri to secede mid-war and after demanding the border states you don't get the little treacherous pieces of Tennessee and Missouri back after getting a peace deal (the first one which the AI accepts), doesn't look neat on the map. Also, I can't find either Stuart, Johns(t?)on or Lee, these are activated through events, which also don't fire.

One last thing, how about a event where both the US and CSA ask the Mexicans for help and you get the chance to take sides and get back either New Mexico, Texas or Cali? would be cool.

Adios!

Partisans used to be IRR, but they were too easy and were made regulars so I don't think it'll be changed back.

And everyone knows the VIP team rule :)

Ok, how do I change them back? just re-started the game, every month 10.000 partisans emerge, head to the hills and after 9 months, 90.000 guys counterattack, this is just crappy. Also, USA needs to accept some peace offerings.... christ.

That's the perfect time for using a Neville cheat peace deal.

IIRC, the sleepleader and wakeleader commands aren't working. Those events in VIP have leadership points granted instead - temprarily, until the sleep/wakeleader commands are fixed.

Glad you're enjoying VIP - it'll be even better in v03. :D

I think it's hardcoded. I've not seen partisans like that since 1.02 either.

Well, I can't really use neville as the peace is event-driven. Is there a reason why Missouri, Arkansas and other states do not secede on their own?

I'm going to make a point here that partisans should be irregulars, which COULD liberate a province if there's no regular enemy army around, but would get their ass kicked the moment any regulars show up. Name me the war won by partisans that were fighting regular units on a regular basis............

As far as I know, the issue with partisans is something you'll have to take up with Paradox. I don't believe we can do anything about it in VIP.

I believe you're correct here Theo. It is something that Johan will have to change.

You're right, of course. So maybe we should go to Vietnam's antecedent - the Viet Minh vs the French?

There is some truth in your Vietnam comment, but I doubt 10.000 Viet Minh/Cong would be a match for 10.000 French Regulars. Regardless, the current situation is out of whack.

The Viet Minh/Cong did well enough at Dien Bien Phu, and wasn't that against the Foreign Legion?

I thought I saw some of each in my game last night. I like that idea...some irregulars, some regulars...size varied on province population...that sort of thing.

At Dien Bien Phu there was a 15000-men (professionnal) French expeditionnary corp in the valley, cut from their base (after a couple of days Viet-Minh was systematically shooting the airplanes bringing food and medicine, taking the injured, etc...).

On the other hand there were about 90000 viets well dug high in the montain, with heavy artillery (that was not planned by the French leadership, they were too confident). Reinforcements were pouring in continuously and it is estimated that about 120.000 local villagers helped feeding the troops and carrying the weapons to the top of the mountains.

Despite this disadvantage, the French fought for about 3 months, losing "only" 3.000 men while the viets lost about 40.000. Yet they surrendered as they were out of food and they had too many injured soldiers. It is only after they were imprisonned and forced to walk for weeks in the jungle that 8000 more French died (from illness mostly).

Back to the game, I think the partisans are not so badly represented as they usually start at no higher than 24 morale. Also, come on ! You can't expect that you can grab suddenly some foreign culture ennemy land in a peace treaty and without experiencing revolts where no garrison is stationned.

That being said, 10.000 strong partisan divisions in a 31.000 people californian province sounds too much, I agree ! :)

Whenever I take new land I just put one division for a while there, that way you can dig in, be the defender and get the railroad defense bonus. When I conquer a Chinese/Korean/Japanese province, I just leave the division there (usually plain native infantery) till the end of the game.

When I fight the US I usually keep increasing my military rating and try to take Washington, wait for a while and get at least a white peace. But in my latest game as Argentina, the US invaded my Mexican provinces, tried landing in Buenos Aires losing 70 (!) :D divisions in the process, still no peace (-11 was acore at that time). I got Spain and super strong Brazil to join in, and their allies (most of south america), still no peace (they eventually made me one but wanted all I had above Panama, including my two most lucrative Mexican factories...). Their military rating is 160, mine around 40. :(

Partisans will not go back to irregulars, so you can forget about that idea... ;)
Also, to avoid the partisans problems, just leave some forces behind and problem solved.

One last thing, how about a event where both the US and CSA ask the Mexicans for help and you get the chance to take sides and get back either New Mexico, Texas or Cali? would be cool.

The problem with this is that, historically, neither USA nor CSA had any desire for Mexican help. (The governor of Nuevo Leon actually offered to give Nuevo Leon to the CSA in return for an expeditionary force, which he planned to use in an attempt to take over Mexico, and this offer was refused by CSA. This episode is represented by a VIP event.)

Meanwhile, Mexico had extreme problems of its own (the War of the Reform was just winding down, and the French Intervention was waiting in the wings) and was in no position to offer any assistance to anyone.

In any case, the Juarez government in Mexico would not have assisted the CSA. Benito Juarez was anti-slavery and was a friend of Abraham Lincoln, having carried on a correspondence with him since before Lincoln was President. (During the French Intervention, Lincoln supplied the Juarez forces in Mexico with arms and supplies, and when the ACW was over he ordered the Union armies to march to the border of Mexico and then issued an ultimatum to the French that unless they withdrew from Mexico they were going to get a taste of Antietam, Gettysburg and Shiloh. The French chose the better part of valor.)

The Gold Rush People have a lot of guns and know how to fight
