Hello, i see alot of those "Ideas Suggestions" they are fine and all that, but it made me think about this:

What if when you are a duchy rank lets say a small Italian state, you will be granted weak national ideas called Italian ideas.

If you work you way up to kingdom from duchy, you will be granted "Unique" national ideas. Like Pisan or Modenan that are stronger, (unless you form Italy you will get italian ideas), then we can have all those "Unique" national ideas in the game but we dont see them all the time, its like a reward for ranking up.

Then if you work your way up to empire rank, your ideas will be a littel stronger.

To say this quick:

Duchy= Weak Generic Idea's.
Kingdom= Normal "Unique" Idea's.
Empire= Kinda strong "Unique" idea's.

Decision formed duchy= Normal "Unique" idea's.
Decision formed Kingdom= Kinda strong "Unique" idea's.
Decision formed empire= Stronger "Unique" idea's.

Then you would want to play all countries to "Discover their national ideas"

Of course none of this should be Owerpowerd! but maybe France's "Elan" should only have 15%+ Morale in Kingdom Rank and 20%+ in empire rank.

If this comes in, the devs could take alot of the national idea suggestions from the forums, and use them, so the game also feels even more community made :p

Give me your thoughts about this, and thanks for reading!

This is an interesting idea. But one problem I have is that the Devs will have to go back and change ALL of the ideas so it makes sense. But how about this; How about they change ideas when they change rank. So instead it would be Duchy Pisa, Kingdom Pisa, and Empire Pisa (I see someone saw my new idea group ;)) instead of generic idea groups.
Also what about the HRE? That would nerf the HRE states because they can't get out of Duchy rank (Except for Electors).

Edit: if anything at all, it should be the other way around: strong ideas for duchies to represent their ambition to become greater one day, and weak ideas for empires to represent decadence, corruption and a general feel of carelessness growth often produces.

It can be balanced, needs to be tweaked so it makes sense.

This is an interesting idea. But one problem I have is that the Devs will have to go back and change ALL of the ideas so it makes sense. But how about this; How about they change ideas when they change rank. So instead it would be Duchy Pisa, Kingdom Pisa, and Empire Pisa (I see someone saw my new idea group ;)) instead of generic idea groups.

Then they dont have to do as much writing, and if the communty, made home made codes for the ideas (Its not that hard.) it would almost be copy-paste-abel! And if any historical mistakes were involved in the idea, the fourm would be quick to find out, so paradox quickly would find the mistake and correct it.

Certely not the other way around, then the penalty for ranking up, would be bigger than what you get from ranking up.

Thats why i worte "maybe France's "Elan" should only have 15%+ Morale in Kingdom Rank and 20%+ in empire rank." currenlt as a Kingdom they have 20% this would actualy nerf France, and if AI empires has stronger ideas than a human player, it would only be fine as an extra challenge never harms, and if it gets to hard you can always get "Player bonuses" and "Easy mode"

The point is that the late game often gets a tad boring, because its get less and less challenging. Rewarding empire-forming by giving them even stronger ideas would amplify this even more.

Ok what about this!

Idea tweak:

Duchies will be nerfed in all ideas, EXCEPT for defensive ideas, like increased coring cost and fort-defence modifier. And Empires will get weaker defensive ideas.


Then duchies will be stronger on the defence and harder to counquer, but they will not counquer big empires, and it would still be favorabel to rank up.

Hate the idea. It will only make Emperors too powerful. Your second suggestion of not nerfing Duchy defensive ideas is not going to be of any help. The Emperors/Kings still have monetary benefits, manpower benefits (and all the rest).

Hate the idea. It will only make Emperors too powerful. Your second suggestion of not nerfing Duchy defensive ideas is not going to be of any help. The Emperors/Kings still have monetary benefits, manpower benefits (and all the rest).

Do you mean Human Empires or Ai empires.

If AI i gotta dissagree they with you, they are not too powerfull, you can easily beat them as a player, AI's would have a harder time doing that, I would like some better AI to team up against a big enemy, but thats for another thread.

If you mean Human Empires, Well the Human mind is a VERY strong tool against AI, and as i said before, if it is too hard for new players they could always enabel "Player bonuses" and "Easy mode".

Alas, easy mode and player benefits are not ironman compatible (which is a good thing, but it weakens your argument further)..

I would not mind Ironman to be harder, have you seen some of those world conquests :p, not that i ever have done a world conquest, but i dont mind a weaker player and stronger AI. Its just more game for you before you master EU4.

And for new players it does not harm to be in non Ironman mode, they can save before declearing a war, and load back if you loose it, in Ironman mode you can't and might even make you quit the game, if you loose to much land in the war, I sometmies restarts if the war is too devastating.
