I read the Walfare chapter in the menual but I still dont get some things.

1) what disepline means?
2) what the leaders traits like "shock" and "menuavor" mean?

Every time I get a decision to choose between dicpline and morale I always go for morale just because I dont know what disipline does... I want to finally understand.

Dicipline- how tough your soldiers fight. Basically, +5% dicipline = 5% extra damage made and -5% less taken.
Shock and Fire- when the battle commences, leader shock and fire traits are added to the dice roll. For example, if you have leader with +4 shock and you are attacking over river crossing, you get your normal dice roll, -1 for river crossing and +4 for leader shock. Basically, making you do more damage.
Manouver means how fast your troops march.

How much does the dice roll effect a battle?

Troop quality and all that affect as well, but basically, you live and die by the dice roll. Well, not when you are attacking pagans in your new fancy late game units, but most of the time, dice rolls and their modifiers like leader stats affect the battle a lot.

I thought all troops move at the same speed? Isn't that what Johan confirmed?

He meant Ifantry Cavalry and Artilary all have the same base speed. Leader manoeuvre Terrain and forced march alter the speed of an army.

No, just different phases of a battle.

I think Discipline only affects damage dealt, Tactics affects damage taken. Not 100% sure though.

You need 100% warscore. If you dont have it, they must have a few territories you were unaware of, or they have allies who they're banking on saving them.

But discipline could be king. Countries without discipline in their uniques ideas might have it hard?

Discipline increase the damage your troops do. It;s very good but not "king": an army with +10% discipline vs a 0% discipline army will still lose if they are outnumbered 2 to 1.


Isn't Morale good too?

To the dice rolls sort of damage the morale or do they damage the number of casualties?

Indeed, unit types even have bonusses for damaging the enemy's morale (offensive morale) and preventing them from doing the same (defensive morale).

Morale, in the end, determines who wins the battle. But if we're talking 2 equivalent armies, one with superior discipline and the other with superior morale, the discipline one might lose the battle, but it inflicts more losses on the winner. Which, in a long conflict, is probably the better result.
