though purges are not exclusive to Fanatic Purifiers...and don't forget that you're purging your own people too, but some pacifist-xenophile on the other side of the galaxy who has no chance to go even near your empire...suddenly care about it.
Because if the empire knows you engage in genocide, they acknowledge that you do not have moral boundaries and they -or anyone else- could be a future target.

Slaves cannot join factions. So egal attraction only matters if you have some crazy idea about freeing those pops.

So, that will happen if you decide to changer Sector from let say minerals to energy? Just think about it a bit. You don't even need to do such a drastic move - that will happen if AI simply decide that it need a bit of energy instead of minerals, so it tweaks like two building on each planet?

The remaining issues are balanced by the fact that slaves have crazy output. Slavery is a risk vs reward and micro gambit. Do the micro to keep the slaves in line and you have well defended planets with high output.
Quite frankly, i yet to see the rumored "crazy output". There are some neat bonuses to minerals and food but the whole system feels so rugged and unflexible, that it's quite hard to see if one'll be able to fully unitize mid game minerals bonuses.

Unhappy slaves have a lower impact on unrest than unhappy pops who are not slaves. And we don't know really how the unrest and faction system are going to function beyond the basics. You might be worried about nothing or you might have some valid concerns, only playing the game will reveal which.

Pro tip after reading Utopia patch notes - play as Democratic Crusaders and wage war on slavers - the whole formerly enslaved POPs will love you. And your own species will love you - because why they shouldn't?

You can always drift to Authoritarian later.

I don't see the issue as that makes sense anyways. Use unity producing civics and governments early in the game then later on drift to Authoritarian, Militarist playstyles for minerals.

Because if the empire knows you engage in genocide
that was a confusing part when i started playing stellaris. when i meet someone they already know all my policies(even if i haven't even done anything like slaving\purging\bombing) but there was no way to see what policies they use, or how many Pops they purge...
right now unless i'm trying to be nice i expect opinion about my empire to be at least -200...with a current record of -8730. so diplomacy malus rarely concern me :D
and they -or anyone else- could be a future target.
actually this one is already covered in war score. when you try to negotiate their surrender there is sometimes a line: "think that they'll be purged on surrender"
Quite frankly, i yet to see the rumored "crazy output"
maybe they mean +20%...or +10+sharetheburden :D
I don't see the issue as that makes sense anyways
not really. sometimes slaves are so brainwashed hat they are happy to be slaves. so it doesn't make sense that they still want to be free. we already have this type of slavery: clerks with huge loans

What was the view point in reducing core sectors?
There will be more ways of increasing core system cap, it was said on stream that there are two early game techs that incease it by 1 each, also there is the civic that increase it by 2, so if you want to have large core space you will be able to have it larger than in 1.4, but you will have to focus on it.

they said on Starfish stream something about slowing down...or smth like that.

Bigger question is what, if anything, do they do about the 'big sector with 50 planets' thing that some players do.

whats the problem with it? afaik if you have big sector you can't specialize it. and there may be problems during wars

Well there's no problem, if unlimited expansion in the early game is considered fine and/or desirable from a mechanic point of view, personally I think the game would feel more natural if sectors were limited to a number of planetary systems before losing efficiency the way your core systems do, but I play this way as a house rule anyway so it doesn't matter too much.

maybe i don't see the problem cuz i usually designate sectors to the conquered empires. and if there is space between us i can't join them to any existing sectors anyway. it also make things easier, cuz if there is a faction with funny goals(like "want separate * sector") i almost instantly know where to purge problematic planet.

Why exactly does everyone think that you need to be a pacifist, egalitarian, or xenophile to you know, think that GENOCIDE is morally wrong?
Just asking.

Because this is the Paradox forum. I really haven´t gone on a genocidal spree here or in CKII for too long, thinking about it.

I'm really glad about the 3 cores change. Dont forget its systemwide and we can build habitats and terraform in utopia.

Whilst this is true, and is almost certainly the reason for the change, the core limit has always been more of a problem in the early game than the late game, because you hit that cap fast.

There are new early and middle tech to increase cap now, so probably we are going to have more than five on mid game anyway.

Yeah, but you can usually find more than five habitable systems in the first 15-20 years of the game, long before you're going to have those researched. Core cap is an early game problem that's already basically irrelevant by the midgame. I'm sure it's there (and being reduced) to hold aggressive players back so they don't overwhelm the AI with early expansion*, because if you blob hard at the start it's really hard for the AI to compete, but it is going to make a limit that already chafes even worse because the only way to practically have a fourth colony now (because the fact that it's a system cap is irrelevant because even if you have more than one planet in the early systems you find they're more likely to be uninhabitable) is to take zero income from it and feed it money so it can build more than one building every decade.

*Hence why pacifist empires get more, because the player is then limited by their ethos.

Well, bear in mind they've also nerfed federations by locking them behind traditions and thus, I suspect, making them rarer. That's an indirect buff to the purger playstyle.

And my personal feeling is that purging should be rare and should necessitate a certain, very different playstyle. I play xenophobes quite a lot actually and usually turn purging policy off, it's interesting to have the option there, but I don't think it should be the default playstyle of anything except hive minds and fanatic purifiers. Regular xenophobes are generally better served by being a bit more pragmatic, and I'd expect that to continue.
