I am currently going for the Spain-related achievements and noted that there are a few cases, where the Spanish mission tree forces the player into a very narrow playstile.
1) Dealing with the moriscos. The game gives a choice via event to either forcibly convert Andalucia or establish a policy of tolerance (which apparently requires the player to leave Andalucia sunni or face a severe malus, at least according to the description.) This is good game design, it gives the player a choice between two paths. The mission tree however wants the player to convert the provinces, otherwise it is not possible to progress in the respective branch.
A simple solution would be to give an alternative set of requirements to the "convert Iberia"-mission. I think something along "own Andalucia for 20 years and have no unrest/separatism" with an increased tolerance of heathens as a reward.
There is a similar issue with the "Expel the moriscos"-mission, but its not a big problem as its the last mission in the respective branch anyway. Its more of an immersion-thing id say.
2) The relation to portugal. Historically, spain and portugal seem to have had decent relations for most of the time, they get the historical friend bonus, etc. etc. However, the mission tree (the "continue the reconquista"-mission to be precise) requires ownership of North-morroco which includes the portuguese-owned province of Ceuta. Its not a huge issue gameplay-wise as its the last mission in the respective tree, but i still think it should be changed - Castille DID continue the reconquista while Ceuta was Portuguese (until the Iberian Union in the late 16th century). I just feel that it should be possible to be generally nice to Portugal and still finish the missions.
3) It would be nice if the "Recover Portugal"-mission would require the respective provinces to be owned by Spain OR ITS SUBJECTS, so getting a PU (which happened historically) also fulfills the conditions. Not a huge issue, its the last mission of the branch.
All in all, i think those are very small changes that would allow the player to make certain choices without getting stuck in the mission tree.
