There has been a declining interest in Valkyrienet, the matchmaking server running for the old Europa Engine games, over the last few years, while maintenance and running costs have still been running high.

In early April, we'll be shutting it down permanently, when we are moving offices.

Multiplayer over the internet will still be possible through direct IP.

This does not affect EU3, Rome or HoI3 multiplayer games.

Is there any news on the efforts put into reprogramming EU2 from various people who were allowed to do so?

Do not pile on the agony people. Vnet was just program/platform we used to connect. It can be easily replaced (with Hamachi for example). Game loobby, the place where we mostly chat will stay and that is most important.

We should start testing the IP way, alternatively find another alternative form of Vnet. Hamachi has indeed proved to be slightly problematic, with chat bugs and whatnot.

skype makes voice communication. Easier rehosts, better war communication (less pauses) and so on.

I`m usually icq-online midday and at weekends.

Yes - just look at HAL he can't even type during a session if he is in a little war, now when you backstab him he can start yelling out how outraged he is at once.

Then while you annialate his armies, you can now hear him crying in realtime, not just his after game ranting in the thread.

The possibilities are endless i tell you ......

Voice communication would be interesting, however this is not really an alternative to vnet. It can be done with or without Vnet. As to the lack of vnet, I suppose connecting to IP works fine.

Does that affect Diplomacy too? It has no direct IP option (oddly it's mentioned in the manual but doesn't exist inthe actual game).
