I was just wondering what will happen if the player commanding either a democratic major or USSR uses hindsight to the maximum and manages to defeat Germany much quicker?
My point is that if WWII ends quicker, what will happen during the years remaining? IMHO, the prospect of a final showdown between Fascism-Communism, Democracy-Communism, etc. should always be present to spice up the gameplay after the deafeat of one of the major political doctrines or at least the penalties for war should be drastically reduced, otherwise it will be horribly boring.

Second, about the starting date:
Shouldn't the players be able to choose the starting date when possible? For example, if a player wants to dogdge the disaster of Stalingrad, or foil D-Day, or conquer South Africa as Germany, or undertake any such task of defying history, he should be allowed to so. I do, however, realize that writing a script for the historical context for the 13th of February 1943 or any other day is quite a challenge, so if this isn't possible, it's ok, but if this can be accomplished, it will boost gameplay dramatically, imagine playing Germany on the 6th June 1944 at 0600 hours when reports of paradrops and landings fill the message log... nice.

Oh, and if anyone is interested in a cool fantasia multiplayer idea, how about this: The US vs the rest of the world 1936-????.

Expecting an accurate setup for any user selected point in time during the period (1936-1948) would be an EXTREMELY impressive feat.

I wouldn't count on it...

1936 and 1939 have been announced scenarios in the FAQ thread.

Starting points for major WWII events would be good. Like: Battle of Britain, Start of Barbarossa, Pearl Harbor or similar dates where interesting action is imminent.

This would be the equivalent of having a different scenario for every day of the time period covered. Therefore, it obviously will not happen. There will, of course, be several scenarios covering a number of different dates.

i thought they said there will be about 6-7 scenarios?
:( i sure hope we have a few others and they do a good job making ww2 actualy happen. i meen this wont be like the hundred years war that ends anti-climactical when france pays 150 ducats. right????
they said countries like france shouldnt be allowed to war early also right??? and i hope the ussr is in a pretty bad shape in 1936 war wise :( no debates asked for here either plz just a few opinions and hopes :p

I don't recall seeing any mention of 6-7 scenarios. As Dark Knight pointed out, each starting date requires a new scenario. If you've ever tried making an EU2 scenario you'll find that can be quite a bit of work.

Don't worry though - I'd expect a great many user-made scenarioes within the first few months of release.

I've just noticed how many posts some people have made ... I think a term beyond "astonished" is suitable!

I am also very appreciative that these forums exist... the idea that a modern game maker takes any notice of the game buying public is quite novel and refreshing!!!

(sorry if off topic for this thread... I just happened to be reading this one when I noticed 2700+ .... good grief....)

Ok, I know nothing about coding but does it really take so much work? EU2 Spain, Russia and Britain come to mind....

For flag changing, you need a new tag (ie. CAS -> SPA, etc) and all the monarchs/leaders/etc that go with the tag. Either the coutries are gonna be exactly the same except for the flag or itll take a lot of reasearch forthe leaders, etc. Also, you need new flags, and if you want different flags for each country for each government, that comes out to what, 300+ flags? Not impossible, but resources are better spent elsewhere.
Not to mention you really eat up tags with this.

For flag changes like ENG -> Eng w/ union jack, you need a new global trigger (like ToD) and , well, that requires a bit of coding.

But there weren't any flag changes mid-war that I'm aware of. Why would they be needed in HOI?

And you pick on my 2700 posts (I checked, I'm the only one in that range in this thread) and ignore Dark Knight's 4000+ posts?

I'm so insulted. :( ;)

I think the point of having flag changes would be that if ahistorical political developments occur (Nazi Germany becoming democratic, Italy becoming communist, etc.) then the flags of the countries would have changed (reversion to Weimar or other non-Nazi flag, removal of crest of the house of Savoy, etc.).

You make a valid point here, and it would indeed be a good feature. Don't think it is all that necessary though. Let's say a fascist regime is installed in Britain... Would they absolutely change that flag?

I guess that depends. Flags with older tradition like the Union Jack would be less likely to be replaced IMO.

But as you pointed out, all very ahistoric. I can't find any historic flag changes. There were of course several that occurred post-war, and the German swastika was only fully adopted in 1935 (a few months pre-game) but nothing in the 36-48 time period.

Italy got rid of the crest on its flag shortly after the war ended.

I agree with you that flag changes aren't an essential component of the game, but it would be nice to have a method of changing them.
