Barring a miracle I imagine that the 'crisis to come' in my current game will likely run over the galaxy.

This post is less of a game report and more of a "be careful that you don't do what I did" wrong.

  1. As soon as you find all Fallen Empires see if a War-in-Heaven is possible. If so don't count on a federation fleet to help you. The war will likely completely dissolve existing federations along with the entire federation fleet ... poof [gone].
  2. MegaCorps + minimal habitable planets in game settings aren't a good mix. You likely won't be able to "spam" franchises all over the place because there's simply not enough planets. You largely get all of the negatives but not the positives.
  3. If you role play [RP] then make sure you tailor the game settings so you can have an enjoyable experience. Whether that means tweaking Crisis strength, moving the endgame date around, etc. I recommend you do whatever you need to have fun.
  4. Understand the difference between "insanely lucky" and "good game play". In my last game I didn't realize how big it was to find Fin Habbenis (sp?), AND a Gaia planet with weak-enough guardians to take early, AND an anomaly that gave me a planet. This was incredibly lucky -- however I set this game's settings like I'd have the same luck next game :)

FYI: I'm holding my own against the War in Heaven and making [marginal / tiny] progress. When the crisis comes though I doubt any empire [or federation] will likely be able to concentrate enough force to stop them. I suspect I could cheese out and stall but even that may be too-little-too-late.

EDIT: The new beta patch turned the [bad] economics of my game totally around. Empire Sprawl dropped a ton, economy [as ascended synths] was vastly better, etc. Could even [finally] afford to fire off the Archology project and get those alloys really flowing.

What specific settings do you use for your RP galaxies?

What specific settings do you use for your RP galaxies?

The strictly RP choice(s) for galaxies is mostly just the shape. In this event I prefer spiral galaxies over any other galactic shape.

While not strictly RP choices I prefer small [400 star] galaxies with a max number of AI, FE, and Marauders. The crowded feeling I get from that appeals to me. Maybe because Star Trek & Star Wars seems to be teaming with different galactic species everywhere you look influences this.

I prefer playing with 1.0 habitable planets and 2 guaranteed planets. While not every system should have planets they shouldn't be overly rare either. Because of "micro" and other meta game concerns I've been playing with 0 guaranteed planets and 0.25x habitability. It's certainly different but the problem is that many starting AI empires simply won't have enough planets to pose much of a threat past "early game" so those settings are not as immersive as higher habitability settings.

Lol. I must confess I keep deliberately making sure I start the game in First League territory so I get Feb Habbaris ASAP. I need to stop doing that for a better challenge but I just can’t help myself.

Given how much it makes the WHOLE game easier I'm likely going to have to force myself not to take it :) ... I didn't realize how "garbage" the other precursor events were compared to the "First". Just WOW ...

I kinda wish that the other precursor event chains were changed so they provided more benefit. At least give us a ruined megastructure of some variety. While maybe not a Dyson Sphere or Matter Decompressor but maybe one of the other types of mega structures not otherwise covered.
