Surprised that Oz is such a big market. Pretty amazing that the game sold as many copies there as it did in Germany or the UK. What might account for that?

I'm more surprised that the New Zealand share of Oceania is so small as to be invisible, to be honest. In fact, if the two were conflated that might explain the high number there. Either way, there are plenty of Australasian posters on the forums, and the two countries were highly involved in WWII. Certain Paradox titles including HoI3 have quite high shelf visibility in stores here. It's only natural people would follow that through to getting the expansions.

I'm more surprised that the New Zealand share of Oceania is so small as to be invisible, to be honest. In fact, if the two were conflated that might explain the high number there. Either way, there are plenty of Australasian posters on the forums, and the two countries were highly involved in WWII. Certain Paradox titles including HoI3 have quite high shelf visibility in stores here. It's only natural people would follow that through to getting the expansions.

How much cringe is there in Germany though? If one or two percent of Australia's figure is New Zealand, you'd just need to look at English language+high wealth+high interest in Australian military history. Australia does have about 22.5 million people, with another 4.5 here, compared to ~82 in Germany. A three-fold difference in sales isn't impossible given all the things I listed.

OK, then substitute UK for Germany. Obviously there is some reason, (maybe it's to do with HoI not requiring an internet connection or something, doesn't Australia have appalling boradband speeds?), I'm just curious as to why it happens.

Actually, I'm wondering if it's the strict Australian censorship on other games. But yes, download speeds and limits play a part here - I was horrified to find Napoleon Total War and Empire Total War required 14 GB downloads each off GG. That's a whole month's worth of data taking a few days to finish for me, assuming nothing goes wrong. Which it did.

Edit: Interestingly, Canada is fairly high too compared to its population. It does sound like well-off English speaking countries who look at WWII involvement with pride that have high results.

In the case of Canada, I would correct you and say well-off countries...Canada still is officially bilingual (and we are still around 23% of French-speaking)
And yes, contrary to some who might question the French Canadian involvement in WWII, look up the Dieppe Raid, D-Day, the Italian campaign, the Royal 22nd regiment on Wikipedia and you'll see...

As we make up 9% of sales, maybe Paradox will fix our political leaders in game. It's only fair, I mean they do use an Australian animal for their company logo.

Maybe that's the big secret of big sales there?

I agree they should give minors more to do in the big picture of things. Maybe allow them to participate more in the naval part of the game, give them more political power, let them spy more, maybe let AI inform where they are going to attack next so you can prep for it, maybe make research within alliances have more synergy so UK shares tech with their leashdogs and they also help out boosting the general Allies tech rate.

Australians kicked the shit out of Italians all around the Med during WW2, here their participation is almost non-existent (well, they landed with 3 divisions in Belgium in my Germany game and defended there for 3 days...). What can you do with 6 leadership and 30 IC... A couple of LCs and maybe a division of INF pestering Italians here or there. Kinda disappointing.

Next addon should look more to add fun for smaller countries which would let this game outlive the "I've played everyone worth playing" moment and give at least as much choice as Vicky2 gives.

I forgot to mention when I said wealthy countries, that the Aussie dollar is currently worth more than the US. The favourable exchange rate has made me more willing to buy online.

Oh, I know about Quebec. Like it or not though, Canada is part of the Anglosphere. I would have liked to said former Dominions, but the Americans weren't too fond of the idea and had quite the party when they got out.

As for treating the smaller countries better, I think the main problem is they're expected to do their own research and produce their own equipment. Things like the Commonwealth Air Training Plan and the use of British and American produced equipment need to be better represented, licensing doesn't go far enough. Australian, Canadian and NZ divisions were equipped to the same standards as the big powers - sometimes better. And hundreds of thousands of pilots and sailors served with the RAF, RN etc.
