I have to say I'm very very excited for the new Republican DLC, and have decided to put my plans for a game I was going to do on hold until it is released (mainly, take a Catholic Italian character and have his dynasty become Roman Emperors, converting to Orthodoxy in the meantime and healing the Great Schism). Now I plan to do all that, but start out as a character in a Republic and go from there. So, that brings up a few questions I hope the Devs or someone else can answer.
1) Firstly, in the character select screen, will we be able to choose whether a realm we select is feudal or republican? Since SoI we can create Muslim characters wherever we desire to play as; will this work the same now that we have two different government types to play as? So, for instance, can I have a 1066 start as Harold Godwinson, Doge of the Most Serene Republic of England?
2) I'm not sure if I read the details released so far of the DLC correctly, but, from my understanding, if a character is in a Republic (take Venice as an example, as it starts with only one county) and is not the Doge, will he be still playable despite having no titles of his own? (This is sort of what some people on this forum have been talking about; ability to play as courtiers). My understanding of the Republic feature was that, since merchant princes all have a "manor" now, there will always be SOME sort of land a player holds even if he has no formal noble titles. Will we, therefore, be able to play as characters with no titles, at least in a Republic?
3) Connected to the last question, in the character select screen, will it be possible to select such a character with no titles, and so have to build them up to become the ruler?
4) Finally, and this question is directly related to my game plan above, will a Republican character be able to switch between Feudal and Republican titles? For instance, if I started as the Doge of Venice, could I one day become King of Italy instead of Most Serene Doge of Italy? It probably won't make much of a difference to my game (a Roman Republic instead of a Roman Empire is hardly unprecedented ;P ) but it's still an interesting issue I'm curious about. Our Christian rulers can convert to Islam, and vice versa; will we have the same level of control over a realm's government system?
Thanks for reading and hopefully getting back to me.
Very excited about the DLC!

Quick Edit: A fifth question, just about what I said RE the Roman Republic: Will that become an in-game titular title now that we can play as Republics, to replace Roman Empire if we achieve the create conditions as a Republic?
