All Paradox/ CO has to do is basically copy real-life aerial city views, and create that as a simulation and they will have a game that sells more than any of the previous Sim Cities, or city builders..

It's really as simple as creating a realistic city simulation that mimics reality as close as possible- and doesn't have the "wall of skyscraper" look.

This is a PERFECT example regarding how being close to a "big enough" body of water increases residential land values and causes high-rises especially.. This is the gold coast.. but the same thing happens in Chicago and other cities:

Water proximity = taller residential buildings/ higher residential demand (nicer, richer houses etc).

of course, being near a large body of water shouldn't be as big a deciding factor in a skyline as the Central Business District effect.. However, large bodies of water and proximity to those should have a very noticeable effect on land values.

A nice tilt-shift video of a smaller city.

As I said in your other thread, having a forced look would make every single city the same and that would get boring and it would be terrible. This isn't a showcase of "look at these cool cities we, Colossal Order, designed", it's a game where the player gets to design a city. If they want to make it wall to wall skyscrapers towards the end then they should be able to. On the other hand, if you want to make a realistic looking city then you should be able to do that too.

Yeah, I love the pattern, but the occasional difference or disruption to the pattern makes it even better.
