I remember seeing at some point that Trotsky was buffed from having a negative political power gain but I can't remember the exact numbers and the wiki is kinda outdated, unless he still has the same -15 political power gain. It would be cool if someone can link me to the changes because I remember for sure that he was buffed, I just forgot how he was buffed and the new numbers.

Also is it possible for France to go Communist before 1938 without using the NF to do so?

When going Trotzky as Soviet Union the Great Purge is skipped (although you still suffer 20% Division Morale / 4% Doctrine Research) and you can pick the focus Permanent Revolution which upgrades Trotzky's trait to not losing Political Power but instead making his coups 50% cheaper(faster)

Does this count boosting or just coups?

This only applies for coups since this is the only thing that applies to "subversive actions".
Increased popularity boosting without an associated focus aimed at specific countrys is honestly overpowered.

I see, thanks. I mean staging a coup is pointless unless you have a decent amount of support for communism in that country cause isn't the coup supposed to be based on how popular communism in the targeted country? I've also had weird coups when the couping ideology was at about 50% but the coup itself only had 1/50th of the divisions of the original country, I never really understood how it works.

I think the best answer to that probably is "It doesn't" :p

Hmm, its a weird mechanic because the tool-tip says that the rebellion is supposed to be stronger with more support of the rebelling ideology and I remember that this used to be the case in older versions where a 50% fascist USA would at least have 1/3 of the divisions of its democratic counterpart when they rebelled.

Also is it possible for France to go Communist before 1938 without using the NF to do so?

Yes, there are several events to help you if you want to increase communism popularity in France and there's already a fair amount of reds in the country early in the game, to the point it can go communist through referendum quite early. Using the NF doesn't hurt, though, especially if you want to be involved in the Spanish Civil War and/or get rid of your political instability.

Hmm, for me the fastest I can go Communist France without the NF tree is in the 1940 elections, even when I choose the options in the events that allows Communist support to grow. Can you tell me how you do it to go Communist before 1940 elections without the NF as in specifically what to choose and what will show up to allow me to go communist in around 1938 through events only?

I got communist goverment as FRA easily in Oct 1936 without any special focuses. All you need is to be lucky with the May 36 election event, which triggers pretty often anyway. Then in the following scritpted events you select the option giving you additional boost to commies popularity. Once the total is 50%+ you just wait for the referendum.

Starting popularity of communists: 30%
01-05-1936: Election: Communists in Government? (semirandom event) Rather reform ... +10% popularity, Total: 40%
25-07-1936: Workers threaten with strikes. Negotiate ... +7%, Total: 47%
03-09-1936: Revisit Matignon Agreements. Revoke ... +5%, Total: 52%
13-10-1936: Communist Demand Referendum. The referendum ... -> Communist Government

Concerning Trotsky, he not only gives bonus to Coups but also to War Justification. With the NKVD both Coups and justiications happen overnight with comrade Trotsky.
