Now that 1.06 is out there was a renewed interest in some testing and here are some observations that I made.
1. OE starting armies: still not of much use except when I changed the conquer = { BYZ} so it annexes Thrace fast. Even that is only because Byzantium is not a two-province.
Otherwise, I feel even a 1mn starting army won't make much difference to the a.i, wasting everything in attrition.
2. Related to (1), I would like to know what part of the a.i file deals with the dog-piling tactics in siege. I have read it somewhere (from MKJ, of course) but can't remember where.
3. I feel that someone complained the MKJ a.i files make the ai unable to siege large forts. Related to that, and also the last GC I played, I am thinking of using the tool "Technology Effects Editor" so only level 1/2 forts are avaible.
The question is, it makes sure a player will only face small forts, easy for him to assault. OTOH, the a.i usually wastes money building forts and also wastes men on siege attrition. I wonder which is better for the a.i.
(Related to that, I found the 'fortification efforts' random event not to be for the best, as it often gives large fortresses in weird places. As most know, there is a fine line between making things hard and situations that are plain aggravating. So, I wonder if I just got unlucky. Mind you, it was still not impossible; only that each month I had to remember to push in another 1-3k men to reinforce the siege. I can imagine the ai wasting 200k men on such fort.)
4. in 1440, Hungary DoW OE. Iskander goes to siege Rhodes and never bother to return even after annexing it. Meanwhile, not surprisingly, Hunyadi destroys the rest of the OE armies and sieges province after province.
Problem is, OE just builds 1-3k armies and throws them at him, I think losing 60k while destroying <5k enemies.
Of course, the Hungarians get a lot of money in the events and could build a lot. Still, the OE seem to repeat this 1-3k atttack in many other situations, especially against AKK.
Is there anything to modify a.i files so it could only throw >10k armies?
