I. About major alliances

I recently played as communist China but not in the historical way.
After getting allied with nat. China due to the event I saved all my bucks to buy myself out of the alliance and switched sides towards Japan.

After some years of fighting I wanted to switch sides back but couldnt leave the alliance with Japan even tough Japan was not in the axis.

The message I got was something like "Impossible due to being member of major alliance". I'm not sure if this is the way it is handled intentionally but I'd appreciate a review of this issue at least for alliances other than Axis-Allies-Comintern and their historical members.

II. Moving target - Victory Points

Anyway I moved on with my conquest of nat. China and managed together with Japan to seize all VP provinces. During that process I noticed that everytime partisans took control over a province the province had a VP in it although it had none before.

I dont know what the reason for this behaviour is, I recognised it only in this game so I'm not sure if it happens all the time, but in my understanding it shouldnt. Owning the key provinces of a country should always lead to the possibility of annexation.

III. About the feasible but impossible

I managed to have all mainland provinces of nat. China under control, quelled all uprisings etc. just to recognize that there is an island (west of Hongkong) which became VP province for nat. China due to above issue. Well, I thought lets build a transport for an amphibious operation. The thing I didnt think about was that it is impossible to place naval units unless one of your national provinces has access to the ocean.

Therefore I suggest to lock all options in the production screen which are not feasible. Like building a ship without a coastal province or building planes without airfield. In my case I have the option of building paratroopers which is not really an option due to cost and US and UK pressing hard on my borders while I cant leave my alliance... (see issue I.). Therefore another fix could be that placing transports (=civilian ships) in occupied but non national provinces becomes possible, although I am not aware on the implications this may have for other countries situations.

I hope these suggestions will be considered by the devs who did a great job btw. :)

You can't leave an alliance of you're still at war, you have to make peace first. I think the message is wrong, but not the mechanics. What was the name of the island?

The island is called Hainan and its right south of nat. Chinas mainland.

Regarding leaving an alliance it makes sense not to be able to leave during war time but I'm asking myself how i could leave the alliance after the unified front event (is that the right name, cant recall) and switch sides in the firat place.

Are chosen alliances handled differently from alliances by event?

Hainan begins the 1936 campaign with victory points (I forget the number, 1 or 2).

As to Japanexe alliances, Japn can get very wierd alliances and wars. Not sure about the differences.

...

You're right, Hainan starts the 1936 campaign with 1 VP. Nevertheless the province is owned by Guangxi Clique at the start of the scenario and I really thought I saw it with 0 VP during my conquest when it was annexed by nat. China.

But maybe I'm wrong, or do VPs change when countries get annexed?
