Someone in this thread said that it would be cool if the names were not written along a straight line, but along a curve. I totally agree, that would take this feature from "very good" to "totally awesome"!

I see that the political map of Asia of 1836 is badly
done first :
- Yemen on the map to the boundaries of the twenty-first century and even then it was Aden, Yemen was a member of the Turks and the Hadramaut who many years later from his sub British
- Oman has its limits the twenty-first century
- Oman Traktatowy made later if I am not mistaken as a British protectorate and there is no boundaries as today Arab Emirates
- Emirate of Bukhara at that time had no land to the south of the Amu-Darya
- Tibet belonged to China
- Iraqi and Turkish borders today and yet if Turkey did not have such a large territory in the region
- to Muhamad something for much of these lands in Arabii on this map has

The map is based on CLIO, which was made with modern borders present for the benefit of MDS.

Though I agree that the modern Yemeni border doesn't really 'work' for this period it's a minor issue.

karoloman,
This map is based on CLIO, so you had enough time to complain. In fact, you might want to go and complain about all other mods' maps now, for who knows which one of them the developers will choose for their next project?

As for this map, all your complaints will probably be considered in the Victoria 2 VIP.

That's not really fair, you know. Maybe he didn't own Victoria 1; how was he then to know about the CLIO project?

While this feature is pretty darn cool, I have a concern, especially in the screenshot given.

It is not obvious that the red in India is the United Kingdom. I assume the feature at present only draws the name once, and new the capital. But I wonder if it could be a decent thing to illustrate if the name elsewhere draw is 'far away' (e.g. the other side of the world) then it would draw the name once again. In fact, I wouldn't mind seeing Prussia written twice in the screenshot from this thread.

I even have a feeling that cartographers would do the same; it just seems weird that there is all these big names, but a big area not covered with a name, because that is drawn on an island somewhere.

Like the look of the map, I'm always for more layers and options for customizing the map visuals. I love love love the idea of renaming my conquests and colonies. I hope we have various options for this. I to think the font needs to be tweaked or better yet just have an option box set aside for the player to choose what they would like and leave it up to them. Great idea though! I would love to name some of my colonies in Souther America New Germany or the like. Or bring back ancient realms by forming puppet states such as the Venetian Repuplic ect ect.

Venice may well be in; it surfaced briefly during the year of tumult before being suppressed by the evil white blob.

I know, that's what I implied, too. There's a lot of people who don't care about mods, or didn't care about that particular one. Yet now whatever map-realted mistakes and inconsistences reports are disregarded since we all had enough time to complain about CLIO. Sounds a bit Vogonic to me;-)

To put it another way, the discussion of Clio for V1 for the past 3+ years should, by the point Paradox decided to adopt it for V2, have resolved 99% of geographic issues that may arise, at least in terms of landforms. So, it's not as if the form of the map has only been discussed by a few people, but rather viewed by thousands in its development stage, who could (and many did) offer advice and suggestions to make it better.

And for the most part, what is being reported here is more about interpretation of borders (some of which were "soft" borders in the 19th C that, for reasons of gameplay, have to be made harder than historically might have been the case), and debates over naming (which are handled by simple text files, not on the map itself) and the like.

The "smaller lake" under the Dead Sea is the part of the Dead Sea that has been dammed off and is slowly being dried so it can be harvested for its valuable minerals. The Dead Sea at the time of Victoria 2 should be a single body of water, roughly oblong, with a large peninsula sticking in from the east about 1/4 up (this peninsula is clear in your photo)

Venice may well be in; it surfaced briefly during the year of tumult before being suppressed by the evil white blob.

I read a Two Sicilies -> Italy AAR once where Venice existed, comprising most of Italy's claims that are in Austrian control at the start. Not sure if it was a mod that had Venice added as a satellite of Austria at the start, or if Austria had created it, or if Venice had rebelled from Austria, or what. In V2 I hope and presume that Venice would be creatable at least if Austria fractures (Italian and Hungarian nationalists (at least) starting a disintegrative rebellion). Any idea if you can force your enemy to release vassals in a war in V2 (I don't think you could in Vicky, but could in EU3)?
