Some new map features.

I like it, but I have three requests (and I realise it's a work in progress):

1. TrueType or anti-aliasing on the text. Look at where it says C in China, looks pixel-y
2. Set a max font size
3. Don't have the text stretch all the way to the borders / spill over onto other countries' provinces (see Persia, Tibet etc.)

It just means that every russian can read and write in russian alphabet, roman aphabet and chinese alphabet and 2% know japanese alphabet

What about having long and short names for nations? F.e. Football Manager has this for football clubs and works well. In this case short name would be displayed with font being smaller then X and long name with font larger then Y. It would certainly look better and it wouldn't be that hard to implement (I think).
Just small example:
short name - China
long names - Chinese Republic, Chinese Kingdom, Chinese Empire, Peoples' Republic of China etc. etc.

I like the idea so I'm going to criticize this implementation (not, of course, that y'all won't have thought of these things):

First, some of the writing is too big/overlaps onto other countries. Well, everyone else is saying it, and it is true.

Second, the straightness is unnatural. What would be really great would be if the lettering could curl--could follow a curve instead of a straight line. That's what made the on-map lettering so great in HoI2, for example.

Third, and this is obviously personal since other people have said they liked this, I don't like that font. It doesn't quite fit. Perhaps something curlier or more calligraphic? Or like the old Vicky font?

Like I said though, the idea is great, and I'm really stoked about it!

I agree with what others have said about the font size, let's have it no bigger than that on Persia, or Nejd at the maximum. But I like the font.

And I dont want the font any 'curlier' than it is, let's not go for some sort of Ye Olde Fonte/Thar Be Dragons look. The Victorians considered themselves a clear headed and forward thinking bunch, let's not get all medeival looking on this. Save that kind of nonsense for Crusader Kings 2 or whatever.

Woo hoo! Excellent work on this. One of the more disorienting things about a recent PI game was the lack of reference points once you zoom out. Great to see this is being addressed, and dynamically no less!

I like it.

However, it does make the map look a little weird with very large countries that have very short names, such as China, or Nejd. Maybe it's possible to space the letters out a little more, depending on country size?

In the population box at the top of the screen, the text "Population" really interferes with the presentation of the data. Maybe just eliminate that text since you have title for the box, Population, right above it?

I don't like the font either. It doesn't look that nice enlarged. Here's a selection of 19th/20th century maps. They have really nice looking fonts. Can't say exactly what the fonts in those maps are called as I'm not that much of a fontaholic.

I especially like the second map. It uses all caps for the country names and normal mixed lower and upper case for cities (which would be province names in V2). Some of the words are also slanted (italics) which is a nice effect as well.

Hope you can get this thing working in the final game.

I like it, the font is pretty neat aswell (but I'd personally prefer Times New Roman or some-such - one can't have it all though!), but as already said the letters got really big. What about having greater distances between them instead of enlargening them? Would look better on the map, imo.

Looks amazing, but I'd have to agree with RedRalphWiggum, if you could give us the ability to tone down the size of the lettering it would be great, It'd feel weird if one letter of my country was as big as Australia.

Hopefully, they'll solve the cluttering of the map after peace negotiations. This destroyed the Victoria game imho ...
