It seems that some more nicknames have been added to the localization files, either recently in 1.07 or previously in 1.06 and I've just never noticed them.
So, here are a few obvious examples of historical characters who should have nicknames:
It is commonly said that John was nicknamed Lackland due to his inheritance (money and some worthless land in Ireland) rather than due to the fact he later lost the Angevin territories in France, so I think it makes sense to give him his nickname at the same time as Richard's. This also means he'll have his iconic nickname in the Third Crusade and Alexiad bookmarks.
A couple of easy additions:
Longshanks is of course a very iconic name, and so I've added that for Edward I on the date he becomes king of Wales (even though he should never be king of Wales anyway). Alternatively you could use nick_the_hammer which already exists, though I prefer Longshanks myself.

I'd suggest adding Rufus/the Red because it's actually quite common and therefore can be applied to numerous other historical characters.

Finally, I've added Barbarossa as an historical nickname, like how we currently have Hårdråde. He's just such a legendary character, as well as being one of the favorites in the Third Crusade scenario, that it seems such an easy and obvious bit of flavor to add.
