"Okay, my infantry models are looking great, so I don't know if I should upgrade them yet... There is quite many nice mods related to unit models..."

So, which I am referring to?

Rommell "What model tank are you using in your attack on France?"

Guderian "I don't use models. I use counters for my spearhead."

As far as the definition of sprite, it seems someone from here has already gotten to wiki because it is saying it is 2d/3d.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sprite_(computer_graphics)

In computer graphics, a sprite (also known by other names; see Synonyms below) is a two-dimensional/three-dimensional image or animation that is integrated into a larger scene.

Actually the key here is the word "image" and they say 2d/3d.. meaning pixel art or pre-rendered 3D model saved as an image. I don't think anyone here vandalised it for this thread.

Woots!

I thought that I would have to use counters this game, and in fact, the counters look great, but with this news, I'm goign sprites all the way

Cheers;
Nick

PS: Johan, is there a way to have a mixture of COUNTERS and SPRITES? Like, having land counters and air sprites?

If you zoom out the sprites become counters I think, which I find particularly cool as I like to use both, now I can do so smoothly. Zooming out to analyze the overall situation in counters, zooming in to enjoy the action in sprite. Wonderfullz.:)

HoI3 will ship with over 100 unique sprites for various types of ships, infantry, tanks, planes, cavalry etc..

The moddable system allows every single type of model for a unit to have a unique sprite if desired.

Most wonderful news especially now when the game won`t slow down i might use the sprites more often.
BTW is it just me or others as well think it is time for a DEMO :D
I badly need to play a demo with all the game mechanics in action to actually see how well i`ll run the game as patience is not something i`m known for and i quickly became frustrated by slow speeds.

Different sprite for EVERY possible model? HELL yeah!

Time to step up my graphic and animation game so I can make my beloved Red Army look as good as possible!

And I damn well need to be giving Republican Spain some little I-16s to chop up the fascists with!

For those of us that don't use sprites...
Will using counters tax the system less than using sprites, or will they both use the same amount of memory?

If I were to guess...they'll both be loaded at the same time so you can switch between them in game seamlessly, meaning they will both reside in memory. On the up side memory is not going to be your bottleneck most likely and playing with counters will ease up rendering slightly as well as CPU time spent on animations!

Awesome. Sprites make the game feel so much more personal and alive to me. When I see my troops marching around, I can really get into the mindset of it being a living, real world.
