Some info on the US Spritepack

It was said (by Johan, I believe) yesterday that if they hadn't done the "spritepack for blue coins"-deal those sprites would not have existed at all.
So, no, they wouldn't have been there when the game was released.

The DLC argument was made several trillion times worse however, because it was not made clear that this was the reason the sprites were being sold seperately from the outset. Instead it was 'You can soon buy our game and also immediately pay extra for some nicer sprites'

I would have felt a bit better if when the announcement was made they had said something like 'we have gone gold, but we are still working on some optional extras which we did not have time to fit into the game. To pay for the extra man hours would you pay £XXX for these to download'

I would certainly have felt better.

As long as they're included in a expansion pack which has it's own thing to offer (gameplay, scenarios, etc.) then they'll eventually get my money.

If you mean, will the sprites eventually be included in some expansion pack, then the answer is probably no. Or at least Johan hinted at it yesterday when he agreed that would be unfair.

I hope this spritepack remain last downloadcontent for money because i wouldn't register by payback only because 2 dollar. Better normal expansion.

The sprites are looking great I must say! I've never been a fan of playing the US, so I probably won't purchase this pack. But I would gladly buy a sprite pack for the Soviets or Germans.

I actually do enjoy playing the US.

The giant tech rush/navy building into mass land division building has always been fun for me haha.

I was on the fence but seeing them convinced me I'd like them, and I went for the preorder to save myself a couple of bucks.


Getting me to not purchase it on Steam is pretty impressive

Does the Bonus Pack just include additional US Sprites or other additional Nation Sprites......I ask because like in HOI2, I will probably never play US. Not because I don't like'em...but because it's just plain too easy to steamroll as US

I just don't like getting nickeled and dimed to death for things that used to be included in the initial release of games like companies used to back in the day.

Paradox games, hitherto, have had a limited and frankly not-very-appealing set of sprites on release.

These sprite packs each seem to have more sprites in than, like, the whole of HOI2.

My impression is that there will be nation specific packs, but the bundles with preorders include two packs.

The gamers gate one has both Germany and the US.

Our artist wanted to show what he has currently been doing on the spritepack for the US, and here's some of the planes & tanks and a carrier model.

This will be part of the pre-order bonus for GG, and will then sell for 1.99$ of bluecoins.

Am I mistaking of do those look like Sabre jets???

They do look like Sabre jets. I think they specifically mentioned them.

My guess is they are towards the end of the air tech tree after turbojets have been discovered.

Wouldn't a P-80 Shooting Star make more sense then? After all it was introduces 5 years earlier than the Sabre and was one of the very first fighter jets. The Sabre is more of a korean war era fighter than WW2.

Depends on how far the tech tree goes I guess.

It doesn't really bother me because it's entirely flavour and I doubt I ever get to a point where I'll end up researching it.

Tonight im pre-ordering on gamersgate just for that spritepack, note...i registered just to say this too . you guys are the greatest game producing company ive ever encountered, if hearts of iron 3 lives up to all the hype, i hope it becomes game of the year.

Would these affect the checksum? I don't want to have the problem for MP where some have the DLC, others don't. 'cause that would suck.
