So, first things first: Raskol during patriarch Nikon. Current events are so dull. His reforms shaked the foundation of orthodox church in Russia and splited the church. And, well, 2 events. We stiil has Old Believers in Russia and Russian Orthodox Church still deals with them.
Change it to bigger chain with choices - to reform or to leave it be.

Second:
We have ruler traits, why can't we have patriarchs with traits that will affect country? Anything is better than current orthodox church. Also, can be played around with raskol - centralization(unification) or decentralization(with local traditions). Where unification gives tolerance towards true faith and missionary strength and decentralization plays around tolerance. It still can be event driven but, at some point, will be capped (after raskol, for example) and will change events a little bit. Still, this idea seems bad to me(

Third:
REMOVE STRELTSY AND MADE THEM EVENT MODIFIER. They existed for 200 years. Janissaries existed for 600 or even more. Add some stagnation events and reformation. But change the idea to something like Service Class People (Служилые люди, with which you can leave 50% modifier), cossaks (free, not city, with another modifier) or anything else. Same goes for oprichnina - modifier for idea doesn't make sense. Oprichnina was centralisation effort, not some culture-changing stuff.

Fourth:
There is nothing about Zemsky Sobor and Boyar Duma in events. It is strange. Because Sobor was something like Parliament and Ivan IV used it in his internal affairs for example. And Duma existed from 14th to 18th century, when it was destroyed by Peter the Great. It can be something for special government form or, as best variant, group of events.

Fifth:
Serfs and their position. Forbidden Years (time, when serfs couldn't go from one boyar estate to another), which were introduced during reign of Ivan IV, started the strengthening of serfdom. Still, as player, you can try to prevent this. Same goes for "Fixed Years" - when runaway serf would be searched for five years.
Establishing of Moscow Patriarchate is really important, cause it made Russian Church independent from Constantinople Patriarch.
Event for two militias during Time of Troubles. Or are they there?
Event for Ivan Fyodorov - first russian printer <3
Oprichnina as event for centralization efforts.
More information about Sobornoj Ulozjenije. Because it hadn't only enforced serfdom, it changed lawmaking, land owning, additional articles for trade, estates, land surveying etc. And, your favourite, it abolished the mestnichestvo <3
Events for "German" Quarters in different cities. Which can lead to faster institute growth in them, minor bonuses and interesting events. First "German" Quarter appeare during reign of Vasiliy III (1505-1533).

Some small additions and future changes:
1) German Quarters. They should apper in Russian (or East European) provinces with high development (20 development?) and give small boost to institution spread.

2) Specific Principalities in Muscovy/Russia. The last one was liquidated in 1591.

3) Pomestnaja Systema could use a small rework. It was just first time land was given to service people. And, well, it wouldn't cause any trouble like reblion - Novgorodians were part of Russian state, boyars won't do such a thing to tsar (at that time tsar had practically limitless power and was seen like a ruler without alternative). Just remove those 9k :3

4) Aloisio the New. It's a shame, that article on english wiki about him is so small. He was really important architect for Russia.

5) And, tied to 4th point - modernisation of Moscow Kremlin. Yeah, it became one of the best fortresses in the end of 15th and start of 16th century (the events to come will show this).

6) Heresy of the Judaizers. I think this events should be included just for some interesting flavor. There were no uprising - mostly it was about politics.

7) Moscow - Third Rome and Marriage of Ivan III to Sophia Paleolog. The idea of Third Rome appeared in 1547. It had some claims, one of which was of blood (Ivan IV was grandson of Sophia Paleolog and, logicaly, descendant of Byzantine Emperors). Some prestige or legitimacy bonus could be cool.

8) Sudebnik of 1550 by Ivan IV. Important changes to social, local power, some changes to legal proceedings and evidence. Interesting document.

9) Streltsy. I still can't understand, why professional army armed with small arms increases your Force Limit in Russia, but give Discipline in Hungary. And why Janissaries, which existed for 600 years are event, but Streltsy, which existed for roughly 200 years, are Neational Idea.

10) Hundred Chapter Synod. One of the most important Synod in the history of Russian Tsardom is so small and its choices are soo bland. Should be changed. It was huge meeting and discussed some important stuff.

11) Oprichnina. So, what do you think will give you efforts in cantralization? Taxes? Decrease of local autonomy? Maybe additional states? Meh. If you want to centrilize your state you should be warned - you will be able only to get more men and resettle some poor sods easier. Yeah. Same thing as with Streltsy - can't get it. I think Ivan the Terrible would be shocked by this logic.

12) Yermak Timofeyevich. There is no event for him, but there is event for Skuratov. This guy deserves event with some hugeass flavor text.

13) Regiments of the foreign formation. This was efforts to modernise army by using foreign leaders and mercenaries. This innovations had some success. If not the death of Mikhail Vasiliyevich Skopin-Shuisky this reform would have success.

14) Changes to traditions of Russia and ideas.

15) Changes to Orthodox church.

Oh, and events for monastaries-fortresses for East Europe can be good. They were important points of defence.

We continue our series: "Delve deeper in the history of Russia".
In this post thare can be a lot of information. Why - because i want to show, that Tsardom of Russia wasn't too far behind other European countries. I hope you will enjoy. If you will see any mistakes - i would be glad if you tell me about them :)

Today i will give you a little bit of information about artillery in Tsardom of Russia.

We will start with Ivan IV "The Terrible". Don't be scared by his hickname - he is one hell of a guy. Who else will sheathe man into bears' hide and hound him with dogs. Oh, those lovely Russians... But i will tell you about Pushkarskiy Prikaz(Пушкарский приказ). If you don't know what Prikaz(literally - order) is, you can read it here. So, what is so important about this ministry? Well, one cool guy, named Giles Fletcher, wrote book about Russia in 16th century. The book (btw its name is "Of the Russe Common Wealth. Or, Maner of gouernement of the Russe emperour, (commonly called the Emperour of Moskouia) with the manners, and fashions of the people of that countrey") claims, that Russian Tsar could have the biggest artillery yard in whole Europe. Interesting claim, considering, that Russia is often viewed as falling behind country. This claim is, also, can be pulled out from "The Encyclopedia of Military History: From 3500 B.C. to the Present" by Trevor Nevitt Dupuy and Richard Ernest Dupuy. From the same source we can see, that all fortresses and fortified cities had cannons and crew for them. The smallest had 11 and more "pushkars" (pushkar - name for one of the crew, from russian "pushka(пушка)" which means cannon, ofc :D). And, funniest thing, they all were of domestic production. More than this, some monasteries produced cannons (in the middle-late 16th century, there are sources for this in monasteries registers). In Moscow there were Cannon Yard (state manufactory), where worked nearly 500 men. There were melting furnaces, forges, foundry barn and other. It was one of the most technologically advanced facilities of that time. And, well, all of this was build with assist of foreign specialists (and you can read about one of the reasons of Livonian War, Case of Shlitte, here).
Continuing this, there were yearly inspections. We have infromation about this from Anthony Jenkinson. So, how did inspection happened? On the field were built two wooden blockhouses filled with eart, in front of both blockhouses there were white target, all guns (from smallest to biggest) were positioned in line and were firing from the smalles to the largest. It tooke three rounds to totally destroy them. We can consider, that they were the best of the best (show off in front of English adventurer). But, anyway, it is really good result.
Some information regarding crews (pushkars). They lived in "pushkar sloboda". What is "sloboda" (can be translated as "free settlement")? Well, it is kind of settlement, in which people were "released" from some of taxes, services or other distracting stuff (for example streltsy were free from some of taxes). This system is much more complicated, but we can say, that this people had payment, could work and train and were free from some of the taxes.

Next time i will post some information about production, description of suggested events and information+suggestions for Streltsy and Oprichnina.

Home, sweet home!

It would be great if we get some events related to Siege of Troitse-Sergiyeva Lavra.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Troitse-Sergiyeva_Lavra
the problem is... there is no separate province for this. We are part of Moskva :)

I think that, considering history, monasteries are underrepresented in Eastern Europe. They've played role not only of centers of faith, but they were fortresses for people, that lived on their lands(in 'white freelands' - "beliye slobodi"), they even manufactured a lot of stuff.
For me, tha main problem is that if you give land to church it will increase taxes, but, mostly, those lands were free from taxes...

Also, i just understood, that German Quarters event can lead some interesting consequences.
Like, if you have German Quarter in Moscow and your tsar has high admin, you will be offered to sent one of those foreigners to recruit different specialists.
And, for example, if Russia doesn't control Riga port, there is a chance, that foreign specialists could be arrested or executed in Livonia (if Livonia has balls, or baffling buffoon, or just won't be lucky and will choose 5% to arrest). This will lead to Diplomatic Insult Casus Belli.
And, if Muscovy/Russia will attack, there would be chance, that Poland/Lithuania/PLC could intervene in this war (i hope that it can be made that they will use Enforce Peace option).
This can set in motion something like mini Livonian War.

I hope that i will be able to write down flavor text for most important events or give ideas about them.

I will consult with my friend from MSU about this. Because i think this modifiers can be too good.

I will split information about Oprichnina in 2-3 posts. Because it is a lot of information, ffs.

Maybe, contoversial idea - Oprichnina should be a disaster with events and negative/positive consequances (depends on your luck and decisions and leader traits).
Maybe i will dedicate whole next post to Oprichnina (and, oh boy, this will be HUUUUGE post, because this event causes a lot of contradictions).
It will fire only if there is really unique conditions: exact leader trait, good enough leader (Ivan IV was good ruler and his low admin in game is strange), high enough influence of Boyar(nobility) Estate.
During Oprichnina you will (mind you - this is not even alpha ideas) have -0,05 to local autonomy, -40% to nobility influence, -40% to nobility loyalty, +4 (and additional 4 in noble provinces) local revolt risk, -1% to military tradition, -2% to prestige, -1% to legitimacy, -20-30% to manpower recovery speed, -10% to taxes, chance that your generals and advisors will run away from you, chance that someone will poison you/wife/child, chance to totaly alter those maluses into even bigger maluses or turn them into bonuses, ability to change estate from boyars to dvoryans with (maybe) another modifiers.

Ah, Oprichnina. The event that was caused by madmans mind. Or was it? First, we should look on the earlier years of Ivan IV. He was born on 25 august of 1530. His father died in 1533, but he left Seven Boyars as regents. Eight days later pretender to the throne Yury Ivanovich of Dmitrov was killed. And then shit started - government reshuffles, nobility discontent and, in 1537, rebellion of Andrey of Staritsa (the 6th child of Ivan III, who held, what an irony, specific principality of Staritsa and was one of the regency consul). In 1538 mother of Ivan IV, Elena Glinskaya, dies (some source claim, that she was poisoned by boyars). Then, new "governors" (most notable are two Shuiskies) removed important political figures, who were dedicated followers of centralization and followers of Vasiliy III. Those Shuiskies arbitrarily imposed themselves as regents and ruled as they see. And you can undersatand, how greedy nobility (and they were of that sort) will rule. Ivan IV claims, that they were brought up like beggars or foreigners, and, sometimes, didn't have something to eat and to wear.
Yeah, how this could backfire for nobility...
Yearlier i mentioned Specific Principalities. What is this? Well, it is like fief, but they started to disappear faster, than in Europe (during the reign of Petet the Great there already was another system, but it is another story). And, often, those principalities were given to younger sons. For example, to aforementioned 6th child of Ivan III - Andrew of Staritsa. This could leed to rebellions or claims.
So, you see, after all what was done by Vasiliy III for centralization there wsa ten year reign of boyars. Practically, all went down the pipe. Considering, how Ivan IV lived during this years, what happened (rebellion of Andrew, death of mother), we can understand, why first Tsar of Russia was paranoid.
The next important event happened, when in 1552 Ivan fell ill. He wanted nobility to swear fealty to his firstborn son Dmitriy (who was born recently), but some of the boyars didn't want to see newborn as their Tsar and decided to swear loyalty to the son of Andrew of Staritsa - Vladimir. Yeah, nearly half of your nobility decide to swear fealty to claimant and son of rebel. I think you could understand, how he felt.
Then, Livonian war. Ah, this war. First, Izbranaya Rada (Chosen Council, i think, will be best translation) was against this war - the closest councils of Ivan considered conquering Crimea (yes-yes) more important. Second, they were all for peace for some time, during which Livonia was able to drag into war Poland, Lithuania and Sweden. How would you feel? Considering all previous events, what would you think about nobility (even closest to you)?
And, what do you think, will happen, if your county will practically lose the war? What the Tsar-father will think? Oh, he will connect the dots in his mind, even if he is not totaly right. And this will lead to departure to Kolomenskoe, some drama and, after that, Oprichnina. Some boyars will be able to run, some will become oprichniks, some will be killed, some will be sent to monasteries, some (and not only nobility) will be sent to newly conquered land. Well, you can remember one mustache-wearing dictator, that moved people from one part of the country to another. Also, he was fanboy of Ivan IV. But this is story for HoI <3
During the Oprichnina country was, practically, separated. IIRC, only Posolskyi Prikaz(Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and Razryadniy Prikaz (practically Ministry of Defence) had any "control" on zemshina (this was land, that was owned by nobility, church etc) and oprichnina (the land that was fully owned by Tsar). And, well, by the end of Oprichnina 60% of all land in Russia was controled directly by Tsar.

What we see? Oprichnina appeared just because of unlucky series of events (rebellion of pretender, death of mother, greedy boyars as rulers, illness and disloyalty of nearly half of boyars, "treason" of closest advisors and friends, nearly lost war). Tsars are also people and they can be devastated.
And, do you think, considering all of this, that the idea represents what happened? Maybe. But it was a disaster for country and, well, there were too many "ifs". Country went through it and was left devastated, yet centralized
.
In next part i will talk about events during Oprichnina and beliefs about Tsar.

And now the suggestions part:
  • Strealtsy should be moved to event modifier.
  • Oprichnina should become a disaster with benefits :D
  • Raskol goes to disasters.

Traditions: +25% manpower, -20% core creation cost ("gathering" of Russian lands).
  1. Gatherers of Tribute (+10% tax income) - Grand Dukes of Moscow were known for getting right for gathering tribute for Golden Horde. They often took some of those money to themselves.
  2. Legacy of Dmitriy Donskoi (+0.5/1 AT) - well, I hope I shouldn,t introduce you to Dmitriy of Don :3
  3. Zasechnaya cherta - chain of fortresses, abatises, fortified settlements and guard towers, it appeared in 13th century (also, it was used much-much earlier during Kievan Rus). It should give fortress defense or attrition or lower maintenance of forts.
  4. Seat of Metropolitan Bishop (Tolerance of True faith +1 or +2) - when seat of Russian Metropolit was moved to Moscow it affected it status again and made it more important.
  5. Winner in old rivalry - Tver could become capital instead of Moscow. Still, Grand Duchy of Moscow got better rolls on rulers, so it prevailed. It could be +1 to prestige, or army tradition, or somethin like that.
  6. Descendants of Byzantine Emperors - this idea represents marriage between Ivan the Great and Sophia Palaiologina. She was niece of Constantine XI - last emperor of Byzantine Empire. This should give +1 legitimacy.
  7. Sudebnki - should be left, but modifier should be changed to decrease of local autonomy or something like that (cause, you know, it was important document, that regulated a lot of things and tried to unificate them). Getting another tax boost with lower revolt risk would be strange :D
Ambition: tricky one. I think this bonus should be quality one, but not sure how big and what it should affect

There is another idea - make separated Russian ideas and Muscovite ideas. More than that - create separate traditions for different centers of uniting Russia.
  • Muscovy-centered Russia will have -20% core creation (gathering of Russian lands) cost and +25% manpower as tradition (big standing army).
  • Novgorod-centered Russia will have republican tradition (Veche, which is a lie, but people love it so much) and trade efficiency (trade republic and stuff).
  • Ryazan-centered Russia will have for defence (it was border and shield against hordes) and cavalry combat ability (this should represent Don cossacks).
  • Tver-centered Russia will get development discount (Tver was one of the most deveoped and populated principalities - nearly 160k during 15th century) and production efficiency (was renown as center of crafts).
  • Yaroslavl-centered Russia will have idea/technology discount (Grigorievskyi Zatvor was the first educational institution in Russia first mentioned in 1210 and moved to Rostov in 1214) and prestige (illustrated literature, icons).
  • Pskov-centered Russia will have fort defence bonus (border with Livonia) and, maybe, goods produced modifier.
  • Nizhny-Novgorod-centered Russia will have trade income bonus (city on main river) and force limit size (border city with standing army).
  • Perm-centered Russia will have...just kidding. This Principality had population of 6k in 16th century (yes, in game it has army bigger than its population xoxoxo).
Modifiers can be changed, but idea is simple - to represent in traditions the center.

This part will continue idea of different ideas between principalities and Tsardom/Imperial Russia. This will be second example for Russian ideas.

  • Tradition: you will get them from your principality.

  1. Third Rome - this one is tricky. Maybe just +1 prestige, maybe +1 legitimacy, maybe +0.5 of both. This idea has strong simularity with messianism (to make role and importance of Grand Duchy of Muscovy bigger). Somewhat funny resemblance - Moscow stands on seven hills (like Rome and Constantinople).
  2. Sudebnik (1550) - +10% tax increase and -1 to rebolt risk. Modifiers can change, but Sudebnik regulated not only taxes, but some freedom and favors for peasants/serfs.
  3. Regiments of new formation ("Polki Novogo stroya") - i would say morale or discipline boost (maybe both, but 5% morale and 2.5% discipline) during the reign of practically all emperors and tsars foreign specialist were invited to consult and teach. Rulers of Russia always tried to be on par with European war theories.
  4. Siberian Frontier - stays same, goes higher.
  5. Abolish the Mestnichestvo (+5% production bonus and -0.1 corruption) - yeah, it was important. But it was abolished when russians reached Kamchatka.
  6. Table of ranks - +1 AT or something like that. Maybe +0.5 AT and -15% cost of advisor.
  7. Russian enlightened absolutism - i don't have better name for this idea, but it will replace cadet corps. From reign of Elizabeth Petrovna (1741) there were improvements in science, education and, overall, enlightment of population (even education for women for example).

  • Ambition can saty the same, to represent boom of population.
So, yes, they look practically the same, but the history of Grand Duchy of Muscovy ended in 1547 - one century after the start date of EU4.

Wow, that's a lot of information. I don't think the idea idea :) is a good idea. Either make every principality have its own ideas and keep them on unification or leave Russia with one set. 95% of the time it's going to be formed by Muscovy anyway and 4% of the time by Novogrod.

Wow, that's a lot of information. I don't think the idea idea :) is a good idea. Either make every principality have its own ideas and keep them on unification or leave Russia with one set. 95% of the time it's going to be formed by Muscovy anyway and 4% of the time by Novogrod.

I think that Muscovy ideas, as others, should differ from Russian ideas, because, while you are Principality you have your own position, politics, development, but when you unite whole region, what will you do next? Hordes? Ofc. You can't leave those lands without control, because they will raid your lands. Siberia and Far East were colonized by cossacks, which would be part of Russian state anyway. Ushkuiniky will become privateers (hell, even Ivan III hired privateers from other countries). It is logicaly, that Russia will have traditions of its center, but the way it will go is set in stone - Hordes, Siberia, Ruthenia, Baltic, centralization and modernisation.
And, well, this is mostly for players. Also, this can be used for other formable nations (having huge army as Great Britain is strange without continental land, don't you think?).
I really hope, that we will have dynamic ideas. Because there were two important editions of Sudebnik - in 1497 and 1550. And Streltsy would be able to change to more professional standing army during reign of someone like Peter I.

Also, i really appreciate all comments :) TY ;)

PS: i mention here only Russian ideas, events etc. But i will move to another country when (or if) i will be able to post and proceed all information.

I'm a little bit tired after yesterday's work and suggestions, so today i will try to think about orthodox mechanics and some events, that will show falling of peasants into serfdom.

In first suggestion i will think, that Russian church became autocephaly in 1448, but because 4 years of gameplay are not THAT important i think we could think, that it was already independent in 1444 (considering, that Vasiliy II didn't accept Union with Catholic Church)^^"

So, i was thinking about somethin like parliament. But, instead of seats of parliament, your bigges cities will have seat of bishop. The seat of Patriarch will be in Constantinople and there would be numerous mitropolitan seats in countries with dependent church. Yeah, i see a lot of problems with implementation of this. Still, this idea can be just base.
Next, for every seat you will have bishop with 1-2 (depends on development, events, dependence-independence) special church-leader trait (among them there will be good and bad) which will give bonuses/maluses to their seat. Every seat will have small tax income decrease (representing tax-free church property), with chance of becoming higher if your boyars are too influental (or vice versa if monasteries/churches exploit their peasants too harsh), and this tax malus will became tax bonus after event "Sobornoye Ulozheniye" 1649. The second modifier will be -1 to revolt risk.

Next part. There will be modifier for this "parliament" "Decentrilized Church", which will give you +1 to tolerance of all religions. This can be changed during disaster Raskol, when your goal is to make church unified, which will change modifier to "Unified Church" with +2% missionary strength.
Or it can be something like karma/piety mechanic, which you would be able to affect directly by spending Dip for decentralization or Mil for unification. Also it will be affected by bishops and, later, Russian Patriarch (and, i think, that it can be funny, if one of the endings of Raskol will be Russia becoming theocracy). On one hand there will be church, that represents different interpretations and worships in different regions, with bonus to tolerance and something else. The second will be centrilized church with unificated books and worship, which will give you +2% missionary strength and somthing else.

So, next... Bishops will be appointed by events, which you will be able to affect by money, points or prestige with maluses towards the seat (this third option represent you, as ruler, saying "I want this candidate"). And you will be able to affect them during their reign - for good or bad. Same goes for them - they can help you (rally population, for example) or damage you and your plans. You even will be able to "retire" them to monasteries or to their supreme ruler xoxoxox.
They will be appear only in states with high development and in the highest development province in this state. There will be maximum of bishops (5 will be max i think). And when patriarch will appear they will become metropolites.
I think, that this could look like this (insane paint skill, because my notebook is in another city):

At first you won't have Patriarch (till the middle-end 16th century at best, but, with luck, you can get before 1589 and, even, 1550) - only bishops. Each bishop has 1 trait and, during his reign, will be able to get second. Traits will vary greatly and will represent the power that orthodox church had over people. Patriarch will have 2 traits and will have seat in you capital. He, some times, will be pain in the ass, even with good traits (and, with some of them, he will be even BIGGER pain). But, when you will be too tired, or he will be too naughty (some people never grow up *wink-wink*) you will be able to, first, limit (or increase, but there is a chance for problems) his power over your people, second, eliminate patriarchy and give all power to the Monastery Ministry ("monastirskiy Prikaz"). The Ministry will give you plain and understandable bonuses - more tax, less church territories (-5% to estate territorial demands), some interesting events about secularization of church property (yeah, there will be event to melt bells into cannons, cause, you know, that is badass). Ofc there will be drawbacks (like, higher revolt risk), but who cares when you will get cheaper artillery units?
If you will create Monastery Ministry your bishops won't be able to get second trait and won't take cahs from thir seats. But, well, thait will be less good events.

Maybe this suggestion is too big and bad, i have another one. But later...Later.

I'm tired and have too much work, so this one will be short.

While i'm at it - streltsy.

Oh, those +50% forcelimit guys. I don't think that even Pdxes love this (only from gameplay reason, cause it adds "swarm" nation to the game, where balance constantly changes and, now, this style of play is the worst). But, lets be honest - this idea doesn't represent them. First, it was standing professional army, which got paid for their service (4 rubles in a year earned strelets from Moscow, which resembles the lowest payment of dvoryanin, which were lowes nobles, which served for land and stuff; 2 rubles earned streletsy in other cities, and this salaries grew with time, because prices rose) and some food (16 kg of rye and wheat), and were used in garrison duties (like firefighting and police service). Some estimated costs of the 16th century Russia (in kopecks - 1/100 of ruble) - 16 kg of rye 8 kopeck, chicken 1-2 kopecks, cow (!!!!) 80 copecks. So, with this salary, this was really hard to get into this forces. You should be strong enough, tough enough and have experience with musket.
What about numbers? At the start - 3 thousands. At the start of 17th century there were nearly 20 thousands of them (~10 thousands of those were from Moscow). By 1632 there were 33.775 men, and by 1680 ~55 thousands. In 1678 22.504 were from Moscow.
There were two types, as you see, Moscow Streltsy and Gorodovie Streltsy. The latter lived in border cities. All of them lived in their own parts of cities - slobody. Those districts even had some fortifications. Gorodovie Streltsy even got money and land for building house (in 16th century - 1 ruble, at the start of 17th century 2 rubles, from 1630 and later - 5 rubles).
Telling you about their uniforms..Oh, well. Every strelets had parade and "wearing" clothes with same cut. Every regiment had its own colors for parade clothes and was made from expensive cloth. "Wearing" clothes was cheaper and of grey, black or brown color. Every strelets had:
  • gloves with gaiters from brown leather;
  • during campaign barrel of musket or hand cannon was covered with leather cover;
  • poleaxe was wered behind shoulder (didn't matter);
  • on top of a lap belt, to which saber was attached, dressed sash;
  • there were no buttonholes on "wearing" dress.
Cloth for everyday clothes were given yearly in Moscow and one time in 3-4 years in other cities. Expensive cloth for parade dress was given during important events.
What about tactics? At first there were used with other regiments, but, later, thay were used to fire at enemy from behind of gulya-gorod (resemblse wagon-fort concept), from moats, under the cover of cavalry. Later their tactics will change to resemble those of Regiments of New Formation.
To see their combat ability theur were regular inspections. During one of the earliest streltsy destroyed shaft made from ice blocks from a distance of 50-60 meters.

How should they be represented?
Through event modifier. Which should give better quality, but will take cash.

Other events?
Of course! Events for inspections. Events about everyday problems, introduction of new tactics, training and recruitment. Practically those of janissaries, but these events will take your dosh.

And how long will it last?
As often as you work with them. Without trainings and changes of tactics they will lose most modifiers and eat your dosh for nothing.

What will happent, if they will lose all modifiers?
You will be able to invest money and nerves to retrain them or you will disband them. Latter will lead to revolt, during which you will be able to chop their head as a ruler. First will give you ability to reform them (but, oh man, this will be hard).

Why they even should be their?
Because they will represent attempts of Russian state to have military on par with Europeans and, sometimes, even a little bit better.

What about Preobrazhensky Regiment and Semyonovsky Regiment?
Oh, those...Yeah, something should be done about them. But, well, it was army reforms. Maybe give huge event-chain for Russia with ability to change their units to Western? There is ability to revert serfdom through events, so - nothing too ahistorical :3

Also, i have a question, if anyone reembers the thread about implementing army reforms in EU4? If someone could be able to give me a link i would be grateful.
I think that the guy who will link (if there will be one) would be able to give topic (related to thread theme) for next post <3

Atm i'm working on code for Streltsy events and descriptions for them.
It is a little bit hard (never worked with them), but, at the same time, easy (cause i have major in software engineering). Still, work also takes some time ( :( ).

So, i will give some information about modifiers:
Main bonus will be +10% morale, +5% infantry combat ability and +5% discipline. You will pay 1 year of income and event can hppen only with 5 (and higher) mil ruler and not earlier than 1500 (it is 50 years earlier, tbh). But, if you don't want to pay, you will have ability to get free manpower (6 thousands, maybe more). If you will create them you will be able to expand them. Expanding will give you additional bonus - +20% land forcelimit (representing big numbers of them later in 16th century).
Then you will have three (maybe five) year pulse events, that will require you to pay 0.10 of your yearly income to inspect them. If you don't want to do it, this will lead to events, during which you will choose between giving up on inspections completely or paying a little bit more cash to inspect. If you still won't pay you will get maluses. First will be just -5% to morale. Second will be -10% to morale and -5% to inf ca. Third will take all bonuses, but will give small production boost, representing that all those people are now busy with their own production (historically that happened). This will lead to no bonuses.
So, next huge event about them will happen in the first or second quarter of 17th century. This will represent reforms in military. You will be able to spend 1 year of income to reform them while creating new formation regiments. This will remove all maluses and increase inf ca from 5% to 10%. Or, maybe, there will be three different variants. First will be small reforms (this will add another modifier "new formation regiments" with +10% inf ca, +10% cav ca, +10% morale and will cost 1 year of income, but will lead to Streltsy Rebellion), big reforms (this will remove all maluses, will increase in ca from +5% to +10%, add 5% cav ca and will cost 2 years of income) or no reforms (but with some interesting consequences).
And, after all those, if you will be lucky enough and get ruler with 5 mil again (maybe even with 5 admin), you will be able to reform "new formation regiments" into glorius western army. But i don't think that this will happen (but, oh man, this could be so cool - like new and more interactive westernisation).

Tbh, this doesn't represent well enough what happened to streltsy historically - because of appearence of new formation regiments they were used more in police service and, for some time, they even didn't receive payment. This lead to 1682 rebellion. But it represents overall quality of troops (and, hell, thay were really good).
Numbers can be discussed. For me they are a little bit high, so, maybe, i will half some of them down (so all bonuses will be +5%).

There will also be side events about garrison duties and other stuff (so they will, maybe, save your people from fire, or increase production in border region, because you sent them there and people started to settle nearby to sell stuff to them).
