I know sources aren't great, but I've been looking into the family of the final af Munsö kings and there seem to be some errors. I'm using these (1 & 2) sources primarily, and Wikipedia to some extent, though it contradicts certain things. That's the nature of dealing with material from Sweden during this period, though.
Firstly, I don't think Anund Jakob (ID 100508) had any children, and so I imagine that website is correct to state that Svend Estridsen (ID 101515) did in fact marry Anund's widow and not his daughter -- this also makes sense in terms of the likely ages of the characters involved. Also, the game currently represents Gunhild Mule (ID 102516) as marrying Emund the Old (ID 100509, who is missing his nickname) instead of his brother Anund Jakob, so that seems to be a bug worth mentioning. Emund's actual wife was Astrid Njalsdotter (ID 100510), widow of Ragnvald Ulfsson (ID 100521). Her first marriage is already in-game, so she just needs adding as Emund's wife.
Also, Emund and Astrid (ID 100512) should be legitimized bastards as they were the children of Olof Skötkonung (ID 100506) and his mistress Edla (ID 100507). Anund and Ingegerd (ID 100511) should be legitimate, as the children of Olof and Queen Estrid (ID 2801), who is already set as their mother, but not as Olof's wife. This is easy to fix; she was his wife and queen of Sweden.
In short, don't represent common-law/handfast wives as actual wives, as they weren't queens and were rarely recognized by the Church. They were basically just mistresses and they represent the old pagan Norse hangup of having multiple semi-legitimate wives. The game can't and largely doesn't represent this for Christians, though. Perhaps it will change in a future pagan-based DLC pack, but I'm just working with the setup we have now. Additionally, the sources I'm using (linked above) do specifically refer to both Tora Torbergsdatter (ID 102551) and Edith Swanneck (ID 131) as either mistresses or common-law wives. So, this suits the idea of having them as being unrecognized, and any children as legitimized bastards. For more information on this, see this thread where the issue is discussed in more detail.
Also, I think we could probably tidy up Svend Estridsen's many bastards and remove his common-law wives. For example, he is currently listed as being married to two women at once, which the game can't represent.
His second wife is added in 1048, but his first wife isn't removed (divorced) and doesn't die until 1060.
I'd suggest double-checking this and perhaps revising the dates for some of his children if necessary. I think Knud Magnus (ID 101528) should probably just be Magnus, as Knud was a different son entirely and it is suggested that some of these names are occasionally mixed up. That certainly appears to be the case with the two women named Gunhild/Gyda above, ascribed as having both married King Svend. Some sources claim they were different people, whilst others the same.
As for Svend's alleged marriage to Harald Hårdråde's common-law widow Tora Torbergsdatter, I actually think it's quite a logical idea as it would presumably have meant closer relations between Denmark and Norway (something Svend would certainly have wanted given the fact that Hårdråde himself had previously attempted to conquer it) and made him King Olav Kyrre's stepfather. Furthermore, as Svend obviously had no shortage of sons to succeed him (and five did) it's not likely he would have married a woman of Tora's age (then around 40 perhaps) simply because he needed heirs. So, make of that what you will, but personally I don't think it's that unlikely; it seems a pretty straightforward political alliance.
Feel free to dispute any of this analysis, though.
So, for the af Munsö:
Astrid can be a legitimized bastard rather than just a bastard. In addition, I've added her missing sister Holmfrid:
Her dates are fictional, but she is listed in several sources and is useful to us because she married Sven Ladejarl, who I think is in the game somewhere. Someone please point out if he is, then obviously I will add their marriage.
Incidentally, Olof Skötkonung had a sister named Holmfrid who is already in the game (ID 100505) but is missing her presumed historical husband, Svein Håkonsson (ID 102514), a co-king of Norway.
Their two daughters, Sigrid (ID 102515) and Gunnhild (ID 102516) are already in the game and have Svein and Holmfrid correctly listed as parents, so the marriage just needs adding.
I don't know when they got married, so we'll just go with the date Paradox added for her marriage to Emund. I'll also leave Anund as the younger son, as it's suggested (and seems quite plausible) that he became king first because he was legitimate, despite being the younger son. This is also a possible explanation for Emund's nickname of 'the Old' -- presumably in a similar sense to 'the Elder', as in the eldest son.
Emund did have a first wife (the mother of his children) but I can't find anything about her. Also, it seems the death and marriage dates for Ragnvald (Astrid's first husband) may be wrong, but as a) I'm not sure and b) Voy has not edited them in his post on the jarls of Västergötland here, I'm not going to change them.
Now, these changes still mean that King Stenkil (ID 100522) married the daughter of Emund and not Anund Jakob, and this is borne out by the sources linked to above. This Wikipedia page on Stenkil's wife says she was likely Emund's daughter, and this medieval genealogy site corroborates that. They both suggest that this daughter (who is unnamed) was the product of Emund's first marriage to his unnamed/unrecorded wife. In game, then, she'd be a full sister of Anund (ID 100515) and Erik the Heathen (ID 100546).
I'd suggest Ingemo as a name until we have a better source to go by. Wikipedia suggests it was the name of a local saint who either may have been Stenkil's wife or is simply confused with her. The name eventually became Ingamoder (a more modern name, and not recommended) but I certainly think Ingemo is better than Maria. Also, remember that King Jakob had to adopt the Swedish name Anund because his sounded too foreign.
As for Erik the Heathen, I would make him a bit older so as to have him a similar age to his siblings. At the moment he's born when his father was married to Astrid Njalsdotter.
Making him ten years older means he was born around the same time as his siblings (1022 and 1029, so we can have Erik as the youngest); his father would have been around 35 and married to his first wife, which sounds about right. That'd also make Erik around 35 during his war against Erik Stenkilson. I suppose you could add someone as Emund's first wife just so these kids are linked up by a mother, but I'm not going to propose doing that as I have no information to go on; she'd essentially be fictional. If you do, though, you can remove their 'legit_bastard' traits.
As a final thought, Emund_Edmund should be linked up in the Swedish name list. The link already exists for English and Irish, and should be added as Eadmund_Edmund for Saxon as well.
Finally, as I've just realized how big this post became, I'll leave the Ylving stuff for a separate report. Also, I have no idea whether some of these characters should be Norse Pagan or Catholic. Olof Skötkonung converted to Christianity but his two sons are different religions. No idea about the daughters, etc.
Let me know if I've missed anything or made any obvious mistakes.
Thanks.
EDIT: As a bonus, we could add Ingvar the Far-Travelled -- there are several theories about his origins, but he doesn't appear to be in the game already and there are notes in swedish.txt suggesting that he may have been a son of Emund the Old (which Wikipedia mentions) so why not add him as such?
