Some annoying issues in the new 1.8 mechanics

So, for starters:

1) only 100 PI can be accrued now apparently
2) getting 1 point of mercantilism requires 100 PI
3) there is no popup or other notification when you've hit 100 PI - if you fail to notice this right away you simply lose PI

If you're doing Protected Market or otherwise have reasons to build up mercantilism this is annoying. Optimal would be:

1) a notification when you hit your max PI
2) the ability to pre-allocate what you're going to spend your PI on

#2 would be nice for everything. So whereas before I could just click to auto-allocate PI to 1 or more cardinals, now I must pay attention to PI and go open the papacy view and click on whatever it is I intended when the PI number is hit.

This is actually a step backwards in some ways.

Next:

Previously when you were in the builder view and you're done building, you could simply point and drag your cursor to highlight one or more troops next, or click on troops. Now, you cannot do that and first have to click the X to close the builder view. This change is particularly annoying if you have become somewhat automatic in your movements to do things.

Next:

Before if you held down control first and then highlighted a large area, it picked up your navies. Now, it seems like I have to highlight first and then click control to grab my navies. Both/either should work and when I hold down control shouldn't matter. It should be the state of the control key at the point in time that the left mouse is released - not the point in time that the control key is depressed that decides this.

Next:

With the addition of unit creation templates, ships happily now head to their rally point (well, whatever you call it - it would be nice if the game actually *had* rally points, btw) and right through an enemy fleet stack to its death. It's nice how templates work and all, but having a ship (I haven't noticed with troops yet) happily march to oblivion makes this feature a bit annoying to use since ships, heavies in particular, take a fairly long time to be constructed, its very easy to not be paying attention when one pops up and heads for oblivion.

Next:

Previously when I hit pause, the game stayed paused. Now, if a popup comes up and I hit pause, if I click ok on the popup the game unpauses. If I hit pause (talking about pause by spacebar - I never use the widget in the time box on the upper right, so haven't tried that), anyway, my pause is *the* pause and nothing in the game should unpause, ever until I click to unpause.

Having said that, I think 1.8 is wonderful and I wouldn't call these defective elements, just things that are a little annoying and things that I'd rather not have to get used to and still be dealing with a year from now.

Spacebar is not 'pause'; it's 'pause/unpause.' The actual pause button is that pause button keyboards have that's next to the scroll lock in a lot of cases. That button doesn't unpause, but it does pause. Wiz has confirmed this.

Huh. Color me surprised.

Also I'm fairly sure clicking 'ok' on a popup doesn't unpause the game; either that, or I just haven't noticed it at all.

Your "fairly certain" is simply wrong. Every single thing you wrote was irrelevant. EU4 has a lot of keyboard shortcuts that players use and when someone is referring to pausing or splitting or any number of other activities they are very frequently referring to the built in keyboard shortcuts. You can see people like DDRJake and Arumba using the pause/unpause shortcut, for instance, albeit DDRJake claims this is the only shortcut he uses while Arumba is basically a shortcut master and not only remaps many of them but frequently asks Paradox for new ones.

Bottom line, you posted into this thread with little/no idea what is either being discussed or what you're talking about as regards EU4. I have >2000 hours of EU4 and if I post a list of annoying mechanics, they're there, they're real and I wouldn't mention them otherwise. Thus your fair certainty is irrelevant and your comments are all basically wrong in the context of the topic - EU4.

You're either trolling or you have no clue. Either way, please stop.

There is an option now in the menu to pause on events. It also unpauses afterward, annoyingly. I tried it, but found that my muscle memory of manually pausing and unpausing got in the way. Also I like to delay the occurrence of some events by leaving the pop-up open while time flies by. It'll auto-pick option 1 when it times out, but sometimes I just want some $$$ to pay for the $$$ option without taking a loan.

Pause/unpause on event popups annoyed me too. I even checked all my message settings before I found right option in the menu. It should be "off" by default.

I'm not 100% sure, because I didn't tested this closely, but autopick happens after 3-4 game months and you can reset this counter by save/load game even in ironman mode.

This is such a good change. Hopefully clicking a trade post no longer takes you out of build mode too.

At least as of 1.7, when I saved with a dialogue box open and later reloaded, the box was gone and I couldn't get it back. I wasn't trying to scam the system, I wanted time to think about an ally's war request before deciding. Kind of screwed me, actually.

And I don't think all autopicks take the same amount of time. War requests are 2 months, but most are longer.

+1 to this. I've wanted this since release. Notifications for max MP would also be nice.

I'd like to set the game to pause when this happens.

Optimally, I'd like to simply decide in advance what to spend the PI on and have it just do that until I decide otherwise. Probably a popup for that fires when the PI level is reached for the preset would be best of all -> " You're set to increase stability with your PI, do you wish to do so?"

I was talking about popup events only and I just checked that it works fine. But yes, diplomatic actions are gone if you save/load.
