Solution for the German Version.. less than ideal but solvable

Since the game is region locked and the version is only affected if you buy it or try to activate it in Germany. Drive across the border to a nation that has the version you want, buy it and activate it there, then drive back across the border.

Problem solved even if it is a less than ideal situation, this is the only possible solution. Of course I think you might be violating some stupid law in Germany if you did this, so just do it at your own risk.

Why not? I wanted to do the same, because the french border is just around the corner. (Yes I know I could just use a proxy)

But yeah, ontopic, can't you just use a proxy? It's not practical for every German Paradoxian to do that....

Might be possible if you can route steam through the proxy.

From the German Version FAQ:

- What if I buy the game in the US, install it and move to Germany?
- Nothing happens. You will have the same game that you had before moving to Germany.

Edit: Do I really have to install it there? I think it would work if I just activate it there.

Says in the FAQ that if you buy the version elsewhere and move to Germany you will have your original version. I think that means you can launch it at that point.

No the FAQ says that they will be unable to activate it in Germany.

Can we please stop encuraging people to violate steam's terms of service and simply deal with it? All that is different in the german version is hitlers portrait. There is no difference in gameplay like in Wolfenstein or Sniper Elite for example. Besides, just swap the portrait to whatever you preffer and you are done and save yourself any trouble.

I hate censorship like anyone else, probably even more, but people really make a massive problem out of nothing here. Before anyone asks, i am german aswell.

I mean it's not paradox's fault, it's the German laws that require the changes (which from what I can tell are purely cosmetic). Also it shouldn't come as a big surprise, after all the World War Wednesdays had to use the German version of portraits.

There are more differences than just Hitlers portrait. Why does it bother you how other people deal with this?
