Soloable?

I bought this game because I liked the demo.
After downloading the game from steam, I started playing, but now im having a hard time.
Is this because im a newb? Or is Magicka not soloable?
I dont have any friends who play this game, or are a gaming addict like me.
So will I be able to complete Magicka on my own?

You will be able to finish it on your own.
I could tell you some tricks and tips but that'd remove all the discovery from the game (which is all part of the fun).

I will give the following advice:

• 
  Try experimenting with different combinations of elements and casting them in different ways (self cast, spray/beam, area cast, sword imbue + strike).

• 
  If you ever find yourself getting stuck at a point then try to switch your tactics around and use some different elements / spells.

• 
  Remember that blocking protects you from lightning (ctrl).

• 
  Keep an eye out for hidden books with new Magicks.

• 
  Have fun.

I soloed the game yesterday... as a free hint I'll tell you some nice spell combinations (at least, I found those useful):
QF QF QF QF QF : powerful steam jet, will throw away shields, armors etc.
QF QF QF A A: less powerful, but it soaks and shocks, for good damage. good as spray or nova.
F F F F F: as a nova, when surrounded by lesser monsters.
Soak, freeze, stone: guaranteed one shot kill with a charged 5D

Not really, I still cant win in chess when playing single player (that is with myself)

That's because noone makes the second move. Besides, once you've had _real_ pvp experience in chess people let you win.

It's funny that newbies write that Magicka is too hard and pros want difficult mode
Play some time in challange mode and you will easy finish singleplayer
