Gday Everyone

I play Stellerais solo and when i setup a game i choose one AI opponent but I always get lots of
AI computer players been playing for a long time yet to win a game (SAD HUH)
The research takes me forevr but AI (ALL 40 of them) seem to be able to build better ships
a lot faster than me i got so pissed off i decided to try just one enemy AI but it never happens
is there a programing issue or they just havent bothered with it yet.
I am so Frustrated and pissefd i have already sworn NEVER to EVER buy a Beta game ever again
Can anyone please give me some info so i can stop stressing

Well, you probably get the 4 fallen empires when you only have one opponent at the start. The chances on pre-FTL species appearing also rises when there are more empty planets. I'm guessing that most of the opponents you are meeting in your new game are pre-FTL species that discover FTL in the first few years of your game. I'm guessing that your one opponent + the 4 fallen empires + the pre-FTL species discovering FTL are the opponents you meet in your new game.

I do not understand if you're complaint the difficulty of Stellaris but really I think it is high, on Normal difficulty is really trivial. You simply have to know which are the key technologies to have as soon as possible. Kind that to build the colonial ship.

I suggest you follow a few gameplay videos on YouTube to understand how to play effectively.

I rarely say this, but get good mate. There's enough info available to stop losing all the time and stop getting pissy at a supposedly beta game.

Well i have been playing strategy games for over 40 years ( i didnt take offense to commewnt) but im finding it hard to get good when i am over run or made a serf in the first 20 years by AI mnore advanced than i am the research takes so ffn long i dont stand a chance if i could start further away from AI start areas maybe i would have more of a chance to build better ships etc. Just seems to me even on low setting its almost impossible to get a foot hold large enough to defend against all these superior and overwhelming puter AIs that have so many even tho i setup for 1... maybe i should stick to.... Losing in 20 years suggests you're playing with advanced start AI, and or high AI aggressiveness. Or you're playing with some crazy mod.
Clustered starts means even if there's 1 AI you'll start next to it. They get starting advantages that make early wars next to impossible to win.

The reason he gets behind in research is probably because he spread his colonies far and wide and gets tons of pops (10% per planet + 1% per pop) and don't dedicate alot of buildings to the sciences to compensate.

Did you know that if you have more colonies your research takes longer?
That is something you have to consider if you want fast technology progress.

OH OK i didnt know that but i have had science ships assisting research on multiple planets i was hoping this would really speed up research but it seems not to make a difference

Each Planet has differing amount of squares dedicated to research i use them as they are intended mostly... i will try and put a science ship on each planet to assist research as the more planets you have and power plants the larger your fleet can be... I will keep plugging away and doiing as best as i can i am not a quitter but somethings are made way to hard for a reasonable balanced game.. but all thse comments are a help thank you all for the input...
BTW incase you didnt notide the novice level of my thread this is the first time i have ever posted on a forum and one of a very few i have ever read. I can usually work everything out myself. Thanks again guys. you all seem to be kind friendly and helpful :)

Mate, science ships using assist research only boost the science output of the planet based on their skill level. But if you aren't building enough science buildings on the planet, you wont get much out of it. For every 4 planets you have, 1 should be a dedicated science planet.

I see exactly two possible problems.
1: You're playing with advanced start AIs. They're more aggressive than normal starts and, predictably, start out with more fleetpower and planets as well as technology.
2: You're playing on hard difficulty, which means all AI get +50% production and fleet capacity.

Do you remember your initial setup (difficulty etc)? It would be easier to help you if we had an idea of it. If you're losing because of an advanced AI, just start a new game without them. If that's not the problem, you should try watching let's plays, or explain a bit more in detail what you're doing in the game (what kinds of ship you make, how you manage your planets...).

Did you know that if you have more colonies your research takes longer?
That is something you have to consider if you want fast technology progress.
If it was really the problem he wouldn't lose the game in 20 years, he would just have a slight technological delay. And technology isn't that important in Normal difficulty, especially if you're behind because you have more planets, because it means that you probably have a larger fleet anyway. He's overhelmed by the AI, so my guess is that he has less planets and a lot less ships, which is a bigger problem.

well strategy games before like 20 years ago are hardly comparable to modern games but still, you should crush the game then, its pretty easy on normal difficulty, just have the tutorial robot tell u what to do

It might give a better idea of what is happening if you posted some images. some one might see something your not.

Do you turn the game speed up or do you leave it on normal? If you play on the fastest speed all the time you might not be able to act fast enough when its needed.

The set for the number of enemies only effect the number that start with FTL, any in the early space age has a % chance of gaining FTL either monthly or yearly can't remember which.
If you just want one AI and no pre-FTL ones popping up later there might be a mod or lower the habitable planets to really low, but that might make it worse.
