Song of Ice and Fire
A Faith In Flames
A Faith In Flames
"With the authority of the Seven do I speak. Heed not my words and condemn your kingdom to ash!" ~ High Septon, The Old One.
Greetings one and all. I'm here to try my hand once again at GMing, in particular a remake of sorts of my previous rendition of GRRM's universe of Song of Ice and Fire. In my prior game, I sort of got bogged down with an overarching story. While I still plan on having a storyline to drive conflict, centered around a brewing rivalry between the High Septon and the king, it will take more of a back seat to player generated conflict.
A Faith in Flames will take place shortly after the death of King Baelor the Blessed, in 171 AC, far before the events of the books, giving us lots of room to be creative. I'd like the game to begin as canon as possible at game start, and deviate as we like as the game goes on.
As far as mechanics go, it shall be kept fairly simple for my sake. Players will control an entire dynasty and the lands they hold. Each dynasty can expect a compliment of professional soldiers, or knights, a peasant levy representing a percentage of their population, and a population, with some controlling a navy as well.
Every turn a player submits a quarterly focus; a single order to advance a particular field in their stats, or an aggressive action against another player. With the posting of the results in an update, time moves ahead by a quarter year.
In times of war, battles are determined by chance, with a greater increase for victory for those leaders who are honed tacticians, and for the side with greater troops. A kill ratio is determined by chance, giving the side with greater numbers the power to inflict greater casualties, up to a cap of 50% of the opposing force. But we can get into greater details later.
In high governance of the Seven Kingdoms is the King and his small council. The positions of the small council are delegated at the king's discretion, and may be filled by players to gain loyalty, or doled out to NPCs, or members of the king's own dynasty to give the king greater control, free of dark ambitions. Next are the lords paramount who rule their respective lands almost as kings unto themselves. Finally there are the high lords, vassals of the lords paramount.
While all positions listed above are up for grabs, none are guaranteed. If you're interested in signing up, state your first, second and third choice for a dynasty. Positions of the king and lords paramounts will be selected by whom I believe will make the best fit, and put forward the best effort.
The Faith of the Seven, the Night's Watch, and the Maesters of the Citadel are all under my control.
My overall idea is to have the game begin closely aligned with GRRM's vision of Westeros, and over time becoming our own reflection of his world. For the purposes of this game, we will be focusing on Westeros alone, Essos being an NPC bastion you are free to conduct diplomacy or war with should the need arise.
I will be putting up an IRC channel in due time, but for now I'll be available here for any questions you may have.
So who's game?
