Song of Ice and Fire
A Faith In Flames

CCfOPZ6W0AEvDKg.jpg

"With the authority of the Seven do I speak. Heed not my words and condemn your kingdom to ash!" ~ High Septon, The Old One.

Greetings one and all. I'm here to try my hand once again at GMing, in particular a remake of sorts of my previous rendition of GRRM's universe of Song of Ice and Fire. In my prior game, I sort of got bogged down with an overarching story. While I still plan on having a storyline to drive conflict, centered around a brewing rivalry between the High Septon and the king, it will take more of a back seat to player generated conflict.

A Faith in Flames will take place shortly after the death of King Baelor the Blessed, in 171 AC, far before the events of the books, giving us lots of room to be creative. I'd like the game to begin as canon as possible at game start, and deviate as we like as the game goes on.

As far as mechanics go, it shall be kept fairly simple for my sake. Players will control an entire dynasty and the lands they hold. Each dynasty can expect a compliment of professional soldiers, or knights, a peasant levy representing a percentage of their population, and a population, with some controlling a navy as well.

Every turn a player submits a quarterly focus; a single order to advance a particular field in their stats, or an aggressive action against another player. With the posting of the results in an update, time moves ahead by a quarter year.

In times of war, battles are determined by chance, with a greater increase for victory for those leaders who are honed tacticians, and for the side with greater troops. A kill ratio is determined by chance, giving the side with greater numbers the power to inflict greater casualties, up to a cap of 50% of the opposing force. But we can get into greater details later.

In high governance of the Seven Kingdoms is the King and his small council. The positions of the small council are delegated at the king's discretion, and may be filled by players to gain loyalty, or doled out to NPCs, or members of the king's own dynasty to give the king greater control, free of dark ambitions. Next are the lords paramount who rule their respective lands almost as kings unto themselves. Finally there are the high lords, vassals of the lords paramount.

While all positions listed above are up for grabs, none are guaranteed. If you're interested in signing up, state your first, second and third choice for a dynasty. Positions of the king and lords paramounts will be selected by whom I believe will make the best fit, and put forward the best effort.

The Faith of the Seven, the Night's Watch, and the Maesters of the Citadel are all under my control.

My overall idea is to have the game begin closely aligned with GRRM's vision of Westeros, and over time becoming our own reflection of his world. For the purposes of this game, we will be focusing on Westeros alone, Essos being an NPC bastion you are free to conduct diplomacy or war with should the need arise.

I will be putting up an IRC channel in due time, but for now I'll be available here for any questions you may have.

So who's game?

EDIT: A link to brush up on ASOIAF lore can be found here.
A link to the last game can be found here, for your perusal.

Definitely game, and quite glad to see your return to OT, Bishop. Now the problem is that I'm hosting a game of my own, having to make up a lot of schoolwork for a reason that'll be obvious in a moment, and nursing a very painful broken leg that leaves me kinda drugged up on painkillers for about half a day. Knowing this is a Blackbishop game, that means lots of events and IC, which may be difficult for me due to the reasons previously mentioned.

Still signing up though. I may not have time right now, but trust me, I will have time.

It will take more then your anime sex kitten assassins to stop me!

I'm game! How do I sign up?

For now, simply list your top dynasty choices to play as. ie,

1. Targaryen
2. Lannister
3. Tully

I'll browse your picks and decide who I believe to be the best fit the top positions. Those of you looking for a more relaxed pace to the game, I suggest playing as a high lord.

1)Minor character of house Lannister
2)Minor character of house Tully
3)High Lord

I'm under the impression that we play as the most important individual within your chosen dynasty.

Stats and orders will likely focus on your ruling patriarch, (or matriarch), but all members of your dynasty are fair game from an IC standpoint. I assume each major house has an extensive family free of kin that you may dabble in to flesh out your IC. Some may even have more then one holding, such as the Lannisters who rule both Casterly Rock and Lannisport.

Eh why not, Im game, should be fun to get back into, maybe my time as Tyrell could last more than a month this time xD

1. Tyrell
2. Lannister
3. Henry VIII or um, I mean Aegon IV in a year or so ingame. So Targaryen yay?!?!?!?

Also, I really dont want teh Targaryens but kinda do, I have a rather large school report due until the 22, so I would prefer playing Tyrell or Lannister simply because it allows me to invest as much time into royal politics as I want until I have more time to, shall we say save the throne from those unworthy of proper power.
