I am still playing my campaign as the USA, and I have noticed that a good chunk of my POPs are socialists. I don't understand why this is. What causes POPs to become socialist?

Unemployment, not getting their needs, high militancy whilst having low consciousness. Or simply just being socialists as the late game starts.

Hmm...I have not had any unemployment problems (that's POPs with "unassigned" right?), and I think I meet all their needs. Sometimes I have trouble getting the lower classes liquor and glass for some reason, but it doesn't stay that way.

They probably turned socialist when a socialist party appeared in the list. Poor pop are "natural" socialists ie they'll turn socialist if they have no other reason not to.

Only possible thing seems to keep their consciousness low enough as to not become socialist.
It's not possible to meet your domestic consumption because industrial efficiency is never good enough to allow enough liquor, clothing and other finished goods to be produced.
Nevermind, do you really want your entire population to be producing liquor for the world? When they could be making steamers which bring in far more money? Ditto...
