I've played about a dozen times since I got the game working with various nations, and I've noticed one very consistant occurance. While the German Empire has formed 3-4 times, and the Confederacy has won the Civil War a few times..., France ALWAYS seems to jump into the #1 slot during the 1850's. Now I know France was a powerhouse during the "Europa Universalis" period, but by Victorian times she was slipping on the world stage to powers like England, Germany, and the USA. Still one of the "Great Powers", but no longer "King of the Hill".

That certainly does not seem to be the case in VICKY II. I haven't played France, but no matter what nation I am playing, France seems to be the power to beat in the game. Has anyone else noticed this trend? Does one of the designers just really have the "hots" for all things French? Or is there some other reason I'm just not seeing?

Dear Mr. Krupp,

Please cancel all pending artillery POs valid after February. We will issue new purchase orders with reduced quantity. Delivery as usual to our Western border, but maybe some partial shipments now might be redirected to the East. Thank you for your cooperation and your great work in the past, we love your cannons a lot!

Yours sincerely

Wilhelm II., German Emperor

France? What? The french is a bunch of wimps. They usually end up #1 due to industry and most of all prestige though. But their army is usually no match against my german/italian/ottoman/japanese/russian men of steel.

France? In most of my games France rapidly switches between Communism, Monarchism, Democracy and Fascism while being repeatedly smashed into the ground by Germany.

Internal trouble are not very well represented. Probably, they do better as they do not change government every two decades or so :p. No spring of nations or this kind of stuff neither.

In my PDM games internal trouble is so bad in France I find invading them in Germany is so tedious - mostly due to French Jacobins/Militant socialists popping up every few weeks halting my advance more than the actual French army :D

France is a paper tiger.
Push it and it falls.

Usually, I don't even have to push it. I was playing as the Ottoman Empire, and even though Prussia had been eaten by Russia and was therefore in no condition to bother France, they still managed to collapse and fail. The POP-Demand mod makes this even worse.

I disagree.
In my games, the only one ultrapower is GB. They always conquer all the world with no contest. I was able to keep China out of British claws with huge efforts (meaning I am Japan, 2nd army in the world and allied to the army top ten).

They have lots of directions to expand: Canada, Australia, India, China. And nobody seems to say: um, Great Britain: Paradox has made lots of countries with cute colours, why do you persist in homogenizing the world palette?

Sometimes I tag-switch into ENG and make a big mess just to shake her empire a little bit.

btw: what's "uber"?

Presumably from German "über", meaning "over, beyond". In this context "uber Britain" means a very very powerful Britain.

German for "over/above"

I haven't noticed this in the games I've played. Britian has come out on top only once that I recall..., but generally squanders it's starting position by going in too many directions at once and failing to maintain it's industry. I have been tempted to "tag-switch" into France and hold back it's industrial growth (wonder if that would solve my problem?)

Same here. If I'm playing as a Johore, USCA, or ome other small nation, I usally declare war, tag switch, offer peace terms etc. I don't feel guilty if it's small territory that they will never need (Like Belize, for the USCA). However, if playing Italy or some other nation that CAN conten with GB, I usally try to fight them for that region (Spain for Gibralter, Italy for Malta).

danke schön :)

I recommend you to tag-switch into "Oh-lalá", close all her industries, declare war on Prusia, disband the armies... put taxes up...
now, run away as hell. (back to your warm country) and have a look. :ninja:
