I so when will Orthodox get some love? With 30 year wars stuff can we get something like Restoring the Pentarchy be similar to the 30 years war if Orthodox controls a few of the locations. Fix some of the Purple Phoniex missions.
Catholic needs the most love.
Catholic got some major love in Art of War. The Curia mechanics have been improved considerably, and as a small Catholic country, you can actually do useful things with your papal influence rather than just buying tickets in the Pope sweepstakes.
I'm not too bothered about which religion is the 'strongest' (that can easily be fixed by moving some bonuses around), but which religions actually engage the player in some way and add depth to the game.
Catholic needs the most love. But yeah, Orthodox needs a lot more attention. Protestantism and Reformed are powerful enough as they are for their bonus'. The original Chalcedonian branches need buffs and more flavor (and Miaphysite needs Patriarch mechanics too).
I can't really see many of the other Christians rushing to defeat the Orthodox, unless Byzantium took Rome, which should incense the whole western Catholic world. And the Purple Phoenix missions are in a huge need of a fix.
And that ridiculous Counter-Reformation tech/idea malus.
Yeh that one confuses me.
What people don't understand about Orthodoxy is that it is very tied to government affairs and the State, but its theology remains static and unchanged in Holy Tradition. EUIV only represents this in a barebones and inaccurate way with the Patriarch Authority slider.
Orthodox is so bland almost the first thing I do as an orthodox country is try to convert to something else. Like catholicism. There's a small amount of countries and no benefit to staying as orthodox other than a pseudo-defensive alliance with Russia/muscovy.
Fair enough, but I was referring more to events. And that ridiculous Counter-Reformation tech/idea malus.
- which does not make any sense, do Copts worship walls or something? Same thing with Ibadi navy morale, does Ibadi islam worship some water spirits? WTFThe orthodox at least have patriarch authority. The Miaphysites (Coptics) literally have nothing. No events, mechanics, just a fort defense bonus.
Orthodox events actually became interesting in AoW because choice between giving or taking p.authority have real consequences now.

The idea seems to be that you can choose to focus really hard on stamping out heresy, which is naturally an impediment to intellectual development. It should be renamed though, as the 'Counter-Reformation' was much more than simply a reactionary defence of the status quo. Maybe call this decision something Inquisition related. The real Counter-Reformation would work better as a series of events than as a decision.
I think it was to simulate the fact that, even in the face of constant Islamic threats, the survival of Miahpysitism.
A bonus which, ironically, doesn't help small nations. Defensiveness is close to useless for countries as small as Armenia, once their weak armies are dead it's only a matter of time till the forts fall, whether it takes one year or two makes no difference. Now that Ethiopia is big it's a great bonus, though.
