So what was the deal with those rebels?

So in watching the Blorg Stream I noticed a few things.

First: when the Qell'Nudar planets rebelled, the news of their arrival initially said they were "The Holy Qell'Nudar Republic," but when they appeared in the game and in the negotiation screen they were the "Quel'Nudar Commonwealth."

Also the whole situation was confusing because both they and the other Qell'Nudar rebels are identified as rebels on the map but on the diplomacy screen and the announcement of their independence they are identified as vassals of the Unified Qell'Nudar States.

I mean isn't it super counter intuitive that people that rebel against your enemies are automatically your enemies as well? That doesn't seem right. Do you think that's how it's supposed to work.

I also noticed at the end that the Qell'Nudar Commonwealth joined another alliance. I believe that was the reason they lost control of the world. And if so, does that mean they are no longer part of the war? Or that "The Glorious Compact" is now at war with the Blorg? Their armies appeared to automatically vacate the planet after that so it seems unlikely.

But if that's the case, then doesn't it contradict what they said about you needing to make peace with all your enemies at once? Were the rebels functionally a part of the Just League, but then left it when they joined the Glorious Compact?

The whole situation seems like the AI doesn't know how to make sense of all the contradictory circumstances.

I believe during the stream they repeatedly stress that the AI's currently being tweaked, so it'll do pretty weird things when they're playing whatever version they're testing at the time.

"The Holy Qell'Nudar Republic" but when they appeared in the game and in the negotiation screen they were the "Quel'Nudar Commonwealth."

Different states can change their name based upon their government type and level I believe.

I believe they said it was fixed as of this week but like they said repeatedly and Bad_Haggis said the game they are playing is not the final product. Errors like this will be ironed out by release, no need to worry.

Yeah, it is possible that they inherited the Advanced Government tech from their former overlords and changed to the advanced government the first day after declaring their independence war. I can't recall whether the original Qell'Nudar has an advanced government now, though.

I think what happened was they "won" their war with their overlords, so they were free and no longer hostile to the blorg, and since they weren't in a war they joined a separate alliance to prevent being curb stomped

You're probably right. Although it doesn't really seem like they should be able to "win" an independence war against their overlord when another empire has their only planet occupied as part of a war for which it is a wargoal.

I think all the Qell'Nudar states had a Theocratic Oligarchies.

I'm more concerned that they started their rebellion with Battleships (which I suspect their parent faction couldn't even design themselves yet) and huge ground forces.

Surly if their breakaway is the result of a revolt or a rebellion then the only ships they should have are maybe a couple of old ships that they found and patched up from scrap yards and whatever local forces decided to defect from their parent empire when they rebelled?
