Sorry I missed this one earlier. You haven't played the original have you? Forget the EU part, it was really just a branding tool to try to increase sales. The original was a sort of experiment with a small game trying out new mechanics that were like a hybrid of the two main brands EU and CK1. So it was heavily character focused while still being player controlling the state. The game was never really finished and if you buy it today you can probably play a few hours before it crashes. Yet despite all that was wrong with it in terms of actually working it managed to gain a loyal cult following because of the potential within the game mechanics. It was truly it's own game while keeping the best bits of both of the major brands. Thanks, but that's exactly what I hope to avoid - for Imperator: Rome to not be just Europa Universalis: Rome 2 under another alias. And I think Paradox doesn't either, otherwise it wouldn't be called that way.
In my opinion the more that separates EU series from other titles and series, the better. That's why I like games such as Crusader Kings and Victoria. They offer much more different gameplay, even though they all share the engine. So I really do hope they will go above and beyond with IR.
TL;DR It is neither EU4 or CK2 it is it's own unique game that rifts off the best parts of all of paradoxs other games.
p.s.Victoria is far more like EU games than they are CK. Crusader kings is more like Rome than any other paradox title especially Vicky.
