I understand that thought, but I think it would be too hard for new players. There's basically metric shittons of information to be processed by the player when starting this game, having system errors or worse equipment might just be too much.

But i totally expect our modding community to come up with something like a "hardcore battletech fan edition" ;)

It's easy to mod the JSON files to produce weapons that have both a bonus and malus and are different to another manufacturers. As you said, the modding community will be able to produce them in a very quick time frame.

I foresee a full line of Quickscell products that are just beyond terrible.

Ok, I didn't intend this when I started this thread, but:

"So, what happened to" the +/- accuracy thing? In beta, +accuracy was bad. I just saw an AC5++ with +2 accuracy. As it was stated that +/++ weapons are never worse than standard ones, this must be better. So they changed this mechanic?
Pretty sure I spotted a +difficulty modifier at least once in the stream... and, as before, +difficulty is bad and -difficulty is good.

IIRC +/- was never an issue for accuracy in the interface, only in the files that aren't meant for direct manipulation anyway. The problem was always that they use accuracy in some contexts and difficulty in others. Naturally, +difficulty is bad and -difficulty is good... the problem is that it isn't always clear that you're in that context.
