I ve downloaded the AGC like three times,
and each time the installer crashes...

"Self-extracting executable has been corrupted..."

Do I need some special RARy program?
Where do I get one?

jms.

Which agc are you downloading? You should be downloading the latest one, jpekar's version, from the mods forum. If you are downloading that, renaming to an exe file or unzipping should work (i.e. using winzip).

Well, I think that's right... I'm just reading the instructions posted, I haven't got around to downloading it yet.

hum...

The problems I had came from downloading off of
MKJ's stickied "BETA 2 IS RELEASED". If it's not the
latest version, or has a corrupt .exe file, maybe the
sticky is a little misplaced. :p

I'll try downloading the version you have in your
sig line, wry & tell you how it goes.

I have a formerly-EEP Byzantium game that I really want
to snazz up now that I've gotten past the Turks and now
don't have any events until the Zoe stuff...

jms.

EDIT: Ok, agc23b7a.zip downloaded fine & I uninstalled it
to an /eu2/agc/ folder; but Windows won't let me change
the target to c:\program files\europa universalis 2\EU2.exe agc
which it says is an invalid file pathway.

Thank you to people holding my hands through this process :)

So

Any ideas? Any other pitfalls I need to watch for? :)

Certainly isn't user-friendly, this AGC...

Looks impressive though, in its little inaccessable folder...

jms.

some people have inexplicable problems with the installer..

regardless, you need to refer to which folder your install of eu2.exe is in, not neccisarily c:/program files...

just make a shortcut of eu2 and add the agc bit at the end

no :)

i do that - the path to eu2 is perfectly valid -
it's the agc part Windows doesn't like

please tell me there's just something i'm missing;
sorry to be a bother :p

jms.

Very simple solution to the problem... just quote the initial bit: i.e. "c:\program files\europa universalis 2\EU2.exe" agc

(hmmm... people who don't look at the instructions carefully :D)

Some progress...

Ok, so what I finally did was just exactly paste the EEP
shortcut info over to the agc one & change the folder tag,
& it works, despite a slew of "i don't know what this
cancel_COT line means" messages when I load - I assume
the edits PE talks about will fix those...

The sad thing is I really can't tell what is different in what
I pasted from what I'd already typed:

"C:\Program Files\Strategy First\Europa Universalis 2\agc"

(I'd tried adding that backslash in earlier).

EDIT:
the errors are
---ERROR: (Illegal Command Type) 'type = removecot' Line = 27 file = AGC\events\age_netherlands.eue---
---ERROR: (Illegal Command Type) 'type = removecot' Line = 58 file = AGC\events\major_mos.eue---
---ERROR: (Illegal Command Type) 'type = removecot' Line = 101 file = AGC\events\major_pol.eue---
---ERROR: (Illegal Command Type) 'type = removecot' Line = 480 file = AGC\events\major_swe.eue---
---ERROR: (Illegal Command Type) 'type = removecot' Line = 491 file = AGC\events\major_swe.eue---

any ideas?

(i'm one of those people IT guys love so much,

The problem was the spaces in your target thingymewhatsit. When there're spaces in the path, Windows can't tell which bit's the program and which bit's the argument (i.e. agc) unless you quote the program; otherwise it assumes the whole thing is the program, which is why you got invalid file (the file didn't exist).

Even if you copied the EEP shortcut, you should _not_ be getting error messages. Are you running with 1.07 May 11? What's your exact target?

(and hey, everyone learns about computers like that... that's the fun with them - every day a nice little problem to solve :) Or a good reason to scream...)

You be the judge (nt)

Just in case one of you nice Mod people were waiting for me to post back in here, here's a new bulletin whatsit. I just tacked the actual errors onto my earlier post.

The reason these are happening is simple... you're not running with the latest beta. Run with the latest beta :)
