I am planning to get HOI 2, but i just havent figured out yet what all the Expansion packs/sets are for. Coul you please give me a brief overview of the different HOI2 games and how i can combine them? Is there a pack that inlcludes all for example. And which one is working which which. For example i could live without a post WW2 scenario. So your help would be much appreciated.

HoI2 - Armageddon is the way to go imho.

I sound similar to you in that I'm only really interested in WW2 era (+/- a few years for ahistorical possibilities).

Nevertheless I find Armageddon the best, it includes all previous scenarioes (i.e. 1936 which is pretty much all I play) plus some refinements and the post-war expansions you already seem to know about.

A good indication for you should be that many modder's are moving to only work with (or release their mods supported for) Armageddon in the future.

Other getting Armg (i.e. the latest release), HoI1 and the various earlier versions of HoI2 all obviously work specificially with WW2 period so any will satisfy your overall requirement. HoI1 is only $10 from gamersgate.com at the moment.

Thanks. So what about the Anthology, seems the best way to go for me so far. Any downsides to this?

Still dont quite get it. The whole series would be: HOI2, Dommsday and Doomsday Armageddon or did i miss something?

Is Armageddon already in Anthology or do i have to buy it separately?

Which ones are standalone , which are not?

Hearts of Iron 2 is the basic game as it was released. Nowadays, you dont need to buy it, because Hearts of Iron 2 Doomsday comes with the origonal game as well, But nowadays you dont need to buy that either, because The Anthology comes with HEarts of Iron 2, the Doomsday Expansion, and the Armageddon Add-on. It also comes with a cool CD Key thats lets you let everyone else on the paradox forum know you own it :) .

Basically, if your new to the series, buy the Anthology, otherwise the only way to get Armageddon is a 5 dollar download from GamersGate.com.

Edit: Im honestly tempted to buy the anthology for the sole purpose of getting the CD-Key and being an E-Thug on the forums with my cool HOI2 Anthology medal below my name.

The medals are cheesey. But on a serious note; if one -such as myself- bought HoI2 a few weeks before DD came out (at the time being ignorant to the fact DD was coming), how many games, downloads, etc. do I need to purchase, so that I can have the 'cool guy' HoI2, and actually have some mods?

ARMG is basically an expansion pack for DD, I guess. So I can't just go straight to that. I guess my options are:

A) Buy DD, then buy & download ARMG - and hope this fun, complicated installation actually works (how many threads have I seen...?)

B) Buy everything all over again (HoI1 also I suppose) and get "the anthology"... and at least know that I've finally got 'the whole package' on disk (presumably). Plus I can then get the cool medals, and won't be presumed to be some gaming pirate that rips games by the thousands in China... and I'll actually be treated like a human being with dignity and integrity.

C) Maintain status quo... always keeping a certain resentment for what Paradox has done -- and just make the most of what I've got. Then go buy EU3, and hope that game entertains me (age of sail, etc.) - somehow not as fun as panzer divisions.

Thank you all for your help, guess i only have to get Anthology then. Still not sure if i do, as i would like to get DV for my CK, but its still too buggy for me. Also i am just waiting for Magna Mundi Gold 2.0 to come out. Fear that i get into HOI too much to have time on my hands when its released. Well on the other hand how interesting can a game with main focus on battle and without Bavaria be for myself...

I am not too keen on the medal but i want the box. ;) The last games i bought where EU III/ NA, Eastside Hockey Manager 2007 and New Star Soccer 3 , which i all only could get via DD. So i need to get something in my hands again.
Will probably decide between DV and HOI2Anth tomorrow. Theres one advantage to DV...i could play right away...but if the bugs still are that annoying like i read on the forums...HOI has the problem that it is so much concentrated on war, while i like to play my Paradox games rather unaggressive.
