So what are we all using as a reference to set our Stellaris expectations?

Someone mentioned Star Trek Birth of the Federation! I had forgotten that game. That game was absolutely fantastic!

It had minor races you could take over or befriend, it had graphical combat, the crystalline entity! Full of bugs and probably an awful interface by modern standards.

Such good times back before being a proper adult.
Mine always had a bug that would not let me level my tech up. So at the start of the game you could pick your starting tech level and i would put everybody to 5 i think it was, just to get the better ships. It was a fun game, but sure was buggy for sure.

I hope the best aspects of 4x genre- Masters of Orion, Space Empires, Galactic Civilizations combined with rts of Sins of a Solar Empire and the grand strategy of EU and CK. Yup tall order..

Galactic Civ 3 has the best ship designer bar none. The ships you can build in that game are incredible. Spent about 400 hours playing Gal Civ 3 about half that building custom designed ships. Only finished one game largest galaxy size have another one going but at the point where i have one and just going through the motions. http://images.akamai.steamuserconte...534/967631F2C0F2B26180B85E47DD290CBF48467B27/

EU IV, GalCiv2 and GalCiv3, MOO1/2/3/nuMOO. I'm comparing it to every 4X space game I've played ever. What else would I measure it by? I'm excited because it looks like something NEW (IMO, "EUIV in Space" is new.)

And Sins of a Solar Empire, because it was sort of the first "RT4X" though Stellaris is much grander in scope.
