If I take out the capital_scope = { port = yes } line will that allow me to create playable merchant republics inland?

I once created a merchant republic only to see the vassal move the capital inland and turn it non playable.


Yes, you are right. :) However you will not be able to build inland trade posts, so you would have to mod in some trade routes where you want your inland merchant republics.

Modding in minor trade routes does not look that hard once you figure out how you want it to worl

Well, so much for my plan to not buy the expansion right away... I give up, it's just too tempting :D

I had the bear bones of this when i was experimenting with government types ages back.

You can make dummy governments of any type to act like pretty much any other. Republics are prone to weirdness though because of what seems to be gui limits and weird outcomes.

Well I was working on a mod back in the day and after silk road came into the game I modded in a ton of extra routes that ran through all of the map and did what was stated in op...this did make it where, playing as a Norse pagan, I was able to convert my inland tribals holding into a city on a trade route and it made me an inland merchant republic. Eventually, I took all of Norway and Sweden and changed my capital to a coastal county but I started as an inland republic. Also, the AI had created a number of inland republics all over Europe and the middle east. As far as modding them to be playable from start idk.

I have not tried it yet, but in the 1066 start there are a couple of inland republics already... Cordoba and Novogrod

Presumably starting there will force the creation of new houses like when you create a new coastal republic. Not done this yet.

I would predefine the leader of the Republics as a Trade Merchant in this case, so it's playable, and then let the rest of them just be filled in as you start.

Thank you for the offer, Snow Crystal. I tried again, but I failed for some reason. Somehow my attempts either made all republics become normal republics, or made all republics become feudal. I even managed to make some other functional minor mods, like an update to the older Caspian Sea ports mod, or some adaptations to imperial admnistration in WtWSMS, but I'm still too much of a noob to understand what I'm doing wrong with this one. Unfortunately I don't have the time to try again for now, but I may do so in July or in December.
