Yeah, I think I've seen that happen once or twice. If I remember correctly: In one game, Toulouse was inherited by a Germanic Pagan kid, still sometime in the 900s, which was enough for the Pope to call for a crusade. Not against the kid, since he was a vassal of a Catholic emperor of Francia, but against some heretics in England.
