It's probably because the USA focus tree is a piece of garbage. More than likely what happened is they got the wargoal to go to war with germany which doesn't take into effect them being fascist, just them existing, and decided to attack them while they were in the allies.

If you go ahistroical I believe the AI is released from Historical focuses or at least no longer will 100% follow them so as to keep the game interesting.
If people want to keep the game "interesting" Let them play with ahistorical mode turned on. Historical mode should be made purer. That means no chance of Franco-British Memeion, NatChi ceding Beijing area, whatever OP posted (USA at war with allies?)

Timeline of the war should be the same. Danzig Sept 39, Den/Nor (Invasion of Norway is painful and should be outright scripted to autowin) France/Neth/Bel in spring 1940. Barbarossa June 41. Right now Barbarossa happens in the mid of 1940.

This is a simple solution that would make happy many of us. I don’t understand why I’m forced to go ahistorical even if have the historical focus on.

Or even better - add a three-point slider beneath the difficulty sliders. With three modes -

1) Historical Mode - Pure historical stuff, not even a slight chance of deviation.

2) Semi-Historical Mode - Historical mode with a slight chance of deviation. The game will stick to history, but with a very minor chance of going the other way at times. So in other words, completely same as the current "historical mode" option.

3) Ahistorical Mode - Basically, same as current "historical mode" unticked. A free for all where the AI will go for any direction without restrictions. The fun mode.

I believe this will be the best way to please everyone, since we all get what we want without having to destroy the UI.

That sounds horrible. What if, as the UK, I want to make a concerted effort to keep Germany out of Norway? No matter how many troops I land there, and no matter how well I do there Germany wins?

And while Barbarossa may happen early in most games, I go back to my original point (which I'll make clear now). Once Germany kicks it off in 39, they should have some modicum of assessing the situation as it is happening, and adjusting from there. Even in the AI's limited capacity.

All the AI countries doing things 100% of the time on their historical dates (within a reasonable time frame), discounts the human player's actions for the game, or the competing AI's choices. You're asking for almost no dynamics what so ever. You might as well record the mist "historical" run of the game on Youtube, and then just watch it every time you want to play.

I was extremely shocked to be playing historical and see the Franco-British Union as well as the Germans invade Sweden and the Finns go Communist and join the Comintern. Which meant a second northern front for the soviets in WWII.

Finn's going communist should absolutely not happen on historical focuses. There's focuses that increase communism in other countries but not fast enough to stop the Finnish-Soviet events. Either you had to accidently not be on historical, or some major bugs happened. I've done all three Germany routes (Hitler, Kaiserreich, European Union) on historical and every time Finland kept historical.

Well in my current USA game on Historical, Germany didn't declare war on Poland(was locked out of Danzig or War for some reason despite meeting all requirements) and Japan joined the Comintern.. believe me when I say the Soviet army is horrifying with Naval Superiority and not needing to fight Germany.. since the Germans also got locked out of the War with the USSR.

So yeah, Historical should actually mean Historical. Fuck off with the % chances.

The Soviet-Finnish war did indeed happen prior to them going communist. But almost immediately after the white peace, they went communist and joined the Comintern. Not a huge deal or particularly game-ruining (though the Germans invading Sweden made me groan in annoyance; any chance we can get an event where the Swedes scuttle the mines if Germany invades? Its what kept the Germans at bay historically) but the second front did rapidly lower the time frame I had to perform Normandy and relieve the Soviets before they capitulated.

Good for you that the game has an unhistorical mode then.

I don't get that people who clearly does not want to play a stricter historical game are making a fuzz about people who who want that.
