The game has become, for me, an exercise in handing out titles. I have given out the duchy of Skane to three different people in two months, because the people I send to run Skane keep dying.

And if I don't make sure I don't have more than two ducal titles (which the UI is useless to inform you that you happen to.) because, you know, they'll see red over that.

Try giving it to a lord who already owns land and has an established family. That sounds like bad luck but people die, try giving it so someone with heirs and see how quickly the title returns to you

Yeah, I know you haven't but don't but diseases to deadly, people who get past forty are a rarity and the black death makes a trip around the world every fifty years, it's great.

Not even 50 years in and there are tons of child rulers of all kinds: counts, dukes, emires etc. because adults die like flies. Check character database to see it yourself.

There are always a few issues at a new release. Just like the ridiculous seduction when Way of Life came out, I suspect that if character are dying at an absurd rate, they will tone it down a bit in the next patch.

I called it weeks ago, the diseases would be either too strong or too weak on release. Its a new and complex mechanic, of course its going to need a patch or two to work out.

The only issue is if the devs double down and refuse to tweek it, and that's unlikely given how flexible and responsive they've been.

Are you kidding, the death rate is AWESOME! People dropping dead left and right, and I even got my kinsman on the throne of the Byzantine Empire before he too dropped dead of the black death. I started in 1066 (Miguiel, spelling?) with the Black Death set on "Dynamic", so it showed up right on time in 1100. At this point I have no idea how it goes from myself to my heir (thank god I had a lot of kids at the beginning of the game).

Seriously, this is some of the most fun I've had in ages...

Not within the same month, but even the old families are dying out and there hasn't even been an epidemic. All of my rivals burned out.

Death rate seems pretty good, maybe a little too strong, but most people died pretty young. Enjoyed where my seducing Welsh king seduced his sister's, daughter in law, plus a bunch of English countesses and duchess's. Had about 15 children and 1/3 to a 1/2 died between the ages of 2 to 27. Heir survived small pox, and became a drunkard with his half brother.

I must agree with the OP. Despite the fact that I am only 5 or so years in to the game 75 % of my vassals and neighbors (and me and my wife) have died from random dieases. And this isn't the Black Death (and even if it was it is still a bit too powerful), it isn't even a minor epidemic, it is just random events giving people diseases. The problem seems to be that the probability to get them is too high and if you get one you will start a chain reaction where you get three more diseases. Even if you won't be killed by a cold (although I have seen quite a few people who have) even the hardiest will die if they also get cancer, rabies and diarrhea.

I've had a completely different experience playing as Pomerania.

First character found a brilliant physician and was touching 70 before he finally died of cancer (and he outlived the physician)
Second character has just passed 60 and is still going strong

Part of this may be that there are a couple of epidemics in the south of the map that have not come anywhere near me. Perhaps being tribal and backward has saved me...

Remember, people in the Middle Ages had a relatively decent lifespan if they survived childhood and weren't involved in a war/famine/major disease outbreak. And nobles often did even better.

Gameplay trumps realism. Having to appoint the same title four or five times in a year is just frustrating; it's just busy work.

Was playing MP as Lotheringia, Not a single disease touched my ruler in his life and he died peacefully at 65.

Started playing as Croatia in 1066, died within 10 years of cancer...

Played in India as the Gupta, was the only member of my dynasty at the start.
Married, had one child then died of pneumonia worsened by an incompetent physician (my first guy was pretty old, so was mainly just frustrating since my only possible heir was a 6 year old)
My new child developed cancer, got cured by magic, developed dysentry, was able to heal, got flu, healed, became an adult had one bastard daughter (legitimised out of sheer desperation in case something went wrong) and then died leaving the throne to a 0 year old girl

I really, really hope they at least tone the serious illnesses down

My first game in TRD, my character started vomiting a month into the game. A week later, he got stomach pains. A week later, he got a headache. A week later, he died.

I guess I can't take always stressed and wounded for free ruler customization points anymore.

It may need a little nudge, but I'm pretty ok with it as it is.

Time to start experimenting with Seniority succession I think...

First game since the patch, fifty years in, only have had a character die once due to disease. Dysentery, in his fifties, for the second time. All my other characters have simply had the absolutely worst luck. Stress (22), two battle deaths (30's and 20's), and one dueling death (20's), so maybe I'm just getting unlucky at seeing the full extent of the system. Have had a number of lunatic sisters with rabies though...

The only thing that might need to be looked at is getting the same major disease/illness twice.
