Building monuments in a sector that's supposed to be focusing on science?
Building physics labs on a planet that has +20% engineering output modifer?
Building a temple anything but a Betharian Power Plant on Betharian Stone?
Building regular power plants when you've got undeveloped Betharian Stone?

It's been a year; we've had numerous patches, several DLC...... yet sector AI is still broken.

Yeah sector AI is still pretty weak.

Sectors still seem to be hit-or-miss even on basic things like building or upgrading space ports. I still have to do most of that manually, even if I dump some resources their way.

Also I had to sectorize a recently conquered pair of worlds from a war that the AI forced on me and my co-op buddy (boy did it regret that). All the mining stations had been blown up in the war. But the sector AI never made a construction ship to go mine them. I went and did it myself. And then, *after* I had built stations on every resource in the sector, only then did the AI build a construction ship so it could sit in orbit doing nothing.

I also noticed that so far they don't appear willing to build unity buildings at all, even on blank tiles with no resources, so I've had to learn (the hard way) to build one of those *before* handing them off to a sector.

Haven't noticed any other specific problems with sector AI yet, but I've only played 2 evenings and I only have a couple of small sectors.

Building regular power plants when you've got undeveloped Betharian Stone?
That's strange, I remember in 1.4 watching my sectors building Betharian power plant. Did it break in 1.5?

Building temples/monuments in a sector that's supposed to be focusing on science?
Building physics labs on a planet that has +20% engineering output modifer?

Look, I mean.... when they were repeatedly enslaving and freeing everyone, that was broken. This is just the AI not being perfect at min-maxing.

Since you can spend limited ascension perk to get 5 core worlds, or also limited civics to get 2 core worlds, or research tech for a single core world, core worlds are a benefit. This means having a world put into a sector is not an anti-micromanagement option, but a limiting factor for the player, so sector worlds has to be bad, or you would not choose those costly ways to avoid them.

The 75% limit on E/M extraction from sectors, all by itself, would be reason enough from a mechanical perspective to want to raise your Core Systems limit. As such, "sectors need to be bad" is not, in any way, shape or form, a valid argument in defence of the sector AI making objectively catastrophic decisions.

No, when they were wildly shuffling the pops around, not building anything, redeveloping despite being forbidden from doing so, enslaving at random etc. Then they were EXTREMLY broken. Now they're just broken.

Sector AI's build similar to AI Empires. Who tend to build completely haphazardly and at random. They happily ignore all kind of stuff, they build whatever and at times not at all. The solution for the AI appears to be that it is cheating more and more with every patch. Which while a fix isn't really the best way to fix things and ignores that the sector AI is forced upon the human.

Right now it's pretty much a glorified auto upgrade tool that slows you down and punishes you with a 25% production fine. Then again, the massive increase to core worlds, that the Ai seems to increasingly cheat rather than develop their planets and some other stuff makes it seem as if sectors are on the way out.

Which becomes an issue when the NPC AI is increasingly cheating to fix it's problems, aswell as on higher difficulty. Having a broken Ai chained to your leg is, not fun. It forces one to min max and be as efficient as possibly.

ye almost a year wow. and this is my one and only time EVER asking this question but ffs i have to know the answer lol

who respectively disagreed wit the OP and why?
His was a statement of fact HE LISTED 4 THINGS THAT HAPPENED TO HIM.
is the person who disagreed calling the OP a liar and saying that this did not happen ?
or is the person who disagreed saying that this stuff does happen but that does not mean sectors are not working correctly ?

Eh it's sector AI. When the whole thing came out certain people disagreed with all threads, yelling everything was fine. It was not. And as time went on more and more of them fell silent.

it's not difficult to set up a weight system that will prioritize special building (beth plant, xeno zoo) or a certain tiles.
and also it need to choose tiles without resources for building like clinic\temple\slave plant and etc

another topic:is it truly needed. people will still complain anyway

Not working at optimum (or even not rage-inducing) efficiency is not the same thing as broken.

It does things, it developes planets so they're of some (if limited) use. I very much doubt that there will ever be a case (before fully finishing all traditions) where you will want to not build the few unity buildings available on every planet. I'd rather it plops down unity buildings on scientific buildings than it not building unity buildings when on any other focus than balanced (which would be the only alternative - not letting it build unity buildings when focussing science/food/minerals/energy).

they might be simply dealing with the restrictions of trying to reduce lag, they can't have the AI check for everything without there being a serious lag spike when ever the AI looks over it's holdings and makes decisions.

The AI does work in that it does build things, maybe not exactly as how you want it, but it seems efficient enough to me.

it's not difficult to set up a weight system that will prioritize special building (beth plant, xeno zoo) or a certain tiles.
and also it need to choose tiles without resources for building like clinic\temple\slave plant and etc

another topic:is it truly needed. people will still complain anyway

you're asking for special weight mechanics to be performed on every time, this is a exponential efficiency, where it gets exponentially slower the more tiles there are.

more likely it works from the other end looking at buildings it needs to build on a planet and then finds the best tile to put it on.

In general I wouldn't let sectors build up new planets. I don't trust them with building placement. I normally find ways to have control of developing core planets, then queue up at least the base buildings. After a bit, I let the sector take over upgrading or anything else with redevelopment turned off.

I think the word broken is overused. My steam review of the last dlc (not utopia) was negative because I called sectors broken because back then they were.

Sector AI is still subpar, but it's not definitely broken in my book. They are head and shoulders better than what they used to be. Slavery works. Purging works. Balanced sectors work for sure once you jump start them with a few thousand minerals. Research sectors work ok, though they still build energy buildings. Food sectors work. Nearly all the tick box options for sectors work. All of these things were not working properly prior to this patch. It's a huge, huge improvement, though it still needs work. Yes, its taken a year, but we can't do anything about the lost time. And if you follow other paradox games, sadly (but great for stellaris fans), the stellaris devs fix broken game mechanics faster than crusader king devs, and even heart of iron devs. So that should help put things into perspective.

Keep up the good work Wiz - there's room for improvement, but let's give credit where credit is due, sectors are in far, far better shape than they were 2-3 months ago.
