As you can see from the above, I am playing as Germany, and two fellow axis members, Italy and Greece have, for whatever reason, decided to declare war, draging the entire faction into civil war. I am, in fact, even at war with myself. While I'm excited about the prospects, I have no troops in position to counter advances from Italy, Spain, or Balkans. This should be a fun, if bumpy, ride.

As it's getting late, I'm going to save this and get to sleep. Tomorrow I'll let you know what has transpired.

As far as I know the reason for such "civil wars" are certain decisions for declaring war, like the attack on Greece by Italy while Italy is already a puppet of another axis nation. They don't check if the other country is in the same faction.

You know, if the French get this bug, they might actually win a war all on their own.

Defeat yourself and form a government in exile. :) Let us know what happens!

Actually it would be rather funny if civil wars were implemented, but they presumably are not.

chuck norris must be ruling germany as a hitler look alike

srly though, wut game mechanic has broken here to where someone can be at war with themselve?

Read my post. ;)

If a decision triggers a war, it doesn't check if the participants in this war are allied. If this is the case, a faction can get into war with itself.

By the way, this was possible in HOI II, too.

I think the problem here is, that paradox could not decide if they wanted a generic AI(everything is possible) or if they wanted to stick to history. So some parts of the game assume: Country xyz might be axis, while other parts of the game allow xyz to be allies and vice versa.

In my game, my early agression made japan join the allies. But they are still at war with most allies countries.

Next patch will bring some consistence into the system, i hope.

My question is that once you have a military alliance and/or the country is part of your faction, than how do you declare war on them?
You as in the player cannot, but it seems that some type of glitch allows your allies to squabble a bit too much among themselves, hehe.

It'll get ironed out, hopefully in 1.2 :)

Yup...my problem is that, as Germany, Croatia and the Cechs are getting out of hand and one of the theaters have decided that in Defensive Stance they should be surrounding them even though they are a puppet.

That i believe is another problem that is being addressed in 1.2 (at least i hope so, in the "improve theater AI" department).

You might also notice that supply wont carry though allies and puppets (also to be corrected in 1.2).

While this is obviously a bug that we would all like fixed, its actually fairly simple to fix this.

In my game, my Ally Japan was at war, whilst simultaneously allied to, its puppet Shanxi, which had caused Japan's war against Nationalist China to grind to a halt.

I saved, and opened the save game using a text editor. Fairly close to the bottom of the save file, you will find a section that defines all the current wars, and which countries are fighting in them. You can either delete the 'false' war entirely, or else you can delete which ever country seems to have slipped into the wrong camp.

In my example, Shanxi was still allied with China, as after Japan released them an event had fired for the united front. So I just removed Shanxi as a defender from the war, and viola, business as usual in Manchuria!

If you are going to edit your save, please backup first as I have not thoroughly tested this!
