I don't think there is any potential addition for CK2 that I want less in the entire world than an event heavy, story focused Charlemagne campaign. I'm sure some people asked for it, same way somebody probably asked for something like Sunset Invasion, and that's great for them. I just personally don't get it, it's like I'm getting coal for Christmas.

Usually only stuff that doesn't effect the core-gameplay for everyone no matter if you have the DLC or not end up being put in the DLC, with LoR as the exception. Taking this into account i think it is pretty safe to assume that the main thing you'll be paying for is the new bookmark

Based on the presentation there is not really any grounds to assume that it adds RPG elements for anyone else than Charlemagne, at least not yet. And if you have no interest in Charlemagne then you end up being pretty underwhelmed by the DLC.

They've already said an awesome feature, delving into one of the most defining moments of early medieval history rather than just starting afterwards. More features are to be announced, but they're doing a press conference for all games and not just this one.

I'll give PDS the benefit of the doubt on this one and see what it is actually offering, specifically. This could be a worthwhile DLC, the details are too scarce at the moment to say either way, but I remain carefully optimistic.

I think it's really odd how there's just Lombard and generic "Italian" in 769 AD in Italy. To say Italian culture was the same in 769 as it is in 1443 at all is just....it should be some kind of late Roman.

Also weren't the Visigoths being wiped out by Andalusian culture at this time?

Not much really. It seems like they are going to do an RPG driven DLC... built entirely around Charlemagne. That is, if you play any other character apart from Charlemagne, you are likely to get zero out of this DLC.

I didn't get that impression from the reveal.
The clock goes as far back as Charlemagne, and surely there will be special things for him, but 867 isn't 100% for the Great Heathen Army, and 1066 doesn't have to revolve around William the Conqueror.

There's "lots of free stuff" that was alluded to, so there's likely to be LOADS more to the Charlemagne DLC than Charlemagne himself.
