Howdy

I loved the game from launch (I dont care about bugs. Bugs gets fixed).
But after 500 hours or so, I wanted some new content.

Last I played was Patch 3, after release.

Im buying all the DLC now. Anyone has any comment about what I will see differently?
Or any comments at all, for a returning player?

I see that that the mod RogueTech is crazy popular.
No steam workshop yet I guess for Battletech?
I hate cheats and stuff that gimps things. Are there any mods I SHOULD have now, no matter what I like?

Nice to see names I still remember! :p. Hi all.

Yeah, no Steam workshop yet, since HBS still doesn't officially support mods (though they've dropped some hints that this MAY change in the future).

As for the DLCs and updates, the single biggest difference you'll see is a Career Mode option on the title menu, which lets you skip the campaign and start the game with the Argo and a semi-random lance to try and rack up a high score over 1200 days, though you can keep playing all you want afterward. This is part of the 1.3 update, so all players have access to this.

Second big difference is flashpoints, which show up throughout Career Mode or after the main story campaign. Flashpoints are mini-campaigns that use a combination of standard missions and dialogue scenes, with some very interesting choices and rewards to be made throughout them. These are only included with the DLCs, and between Flashpoint and Urban Warfare, you'll have about 28 of them total, I think?

Third, the urban biome from Urban Warfare provides what is probably the single biggest change to the tactical gameplay. Lots of buildings can block line of sight or provide high ground, or you can blow them up (if you don't mind committing a war crime or two) to create soft cover and cause falling damage to any mechs perched on them.

And on top of that, there's new mechs, a jungle biome, alliances, features on the nav map, a couple new mission types, and a whole lot more that should explain themselves as they come along.

As far as mods that you should use, mostly it's personal taste... but since the question was asked recently elsewhere, I'll quote the more-or-less definitive response:
Some mods that only adjust QoL things are usually very stable and can be added or removed without risking a save. Mods that add new items, 'Mechs, pilots, Flashpoints and etc make saves with that content reliant on those mods being present almost forever.

My list of most essential mods would be QoL ones. Just two:
  • BTMLColorLoS
  • Mechspin
Color LoS changes the indirect fire line to a dotted yellow line and makes it much easier to spot vs the solid red arc of stock.

Mechspin allows you to rotate your 'Mech in the MechLab to see the paint scheme.

Besides those critical QoL mods, I'd recommend cFixes (disclosure I help maintain this and we don't have a 1.6.2 release yet) for fixing errors in weapons stats, pilot skills and typos in dialogue. So far, HBS has been knocking out stuff we put in cFixes pretty quickly and most of our time is removing bits that are now correct in the base game.

Besides those, the rest it up to you and how you want your game to play. You can go full 3070+ with RogueTech to expanded 3025 era mods like BT Extended 3025 or XLRP. You can also just add on a couple individual mods like Better Headlights or even fan made Flashpoints if a large mod pack isn't for you.
I also consider BetterAI to be an important mod, but that's at least somewhat optional since HBS has been improving the stock AI with each iteration also.

Roguetech and the other Major Mods are a blast and I highly recommend them. Maybe play the vanilla DLCs to get an appreciation for what’s new. Then layer on some Mods to suit your tastes.

HBS’s Difficulty Options can really ratchet up the risk of loss and failure. Between those and some Ods you should be able to find all the Big Stompy Acton you want.

Good luck and Good Hunting! : )

I recommend Extended 3025 Commander's Edition over RogueTech in terms of mod bundles. It doesn't alter the game play or technology level as dramatically while pumping in a host of new 'Mechs, variants, vees, and UI improvements. The 3062 mod runs second, it includes all the new 'Mechs etc, while not totally rewriting the game mechanics. On the other hand, if you looking for an entirely new gameplay experience, RogueTech as close as their is and certainly has the downloads to prove its success.
