So far - imo HOI3 is a superior game to HOI4

I have about 150 hours on HOI3 and 452 on Darkest Hour, so I just found that HOI3 was not as fun. But once again it is all opinion.

I would just like to point out the sheer number of portraits that are in the game. Not only do you get portraits for advisors, and heads of state. You get military leaders as well, and for countries like Germany and USSR, you get a crap ton of them, hell you even get leader portraits for alternative factions. I think it would be OK in this case to excuse Paradox for not putting in the portrait for some nation like Yunnan or whatever right away.

I like the game so far, though miss the land combat of HoI3 without those battleplan, being able to manually move divisions without being punished for it

Of course. I have no problem understanding that. But instead of these generic images you see ALL the time if playing a minor, perhaps just a blank (like dark hitler or something) image. A scenery perhpas, if a politican, a symbol, whatever. The generic ones is the thing that annoys me.

I got to disagree. You just don't like the new mechanics. That's ok but doesn't make HoI3 superior. I can agree on the lack of information though. AI needs some work, but pulls off some nasty stuff sometimes. Flavour will be worked on Iguess.

I won't say which is better or not (I never really got into HoI3 even though I played HoI2) but from what I understand, it's really:
c) they think HoI 3 is better and there's nothing wrong with having that opinion. It doesn't mean they have the wrong idea of HOI or PDX. It doesn't necessarily mean they want it to be more scripted (although if they do, there's nothing wrong with that and you shouldn't speak for "fans" since the people who like HoI3 better are by definition HoI fans and PDX fans just like people who like HoI4 better because it means...they like an HOI/PDX game.)
I happen to like HoI 4 better than HoI 2 though.

I have about 600 hours in HoI3, maybe more I haven't checked lately. About 6 in HoI4 so far.
HoI4 is going to be a way better game eventually, but it's not much better currently because there are a variety of oversights, confusing UI elements and such that need to be fixed. It's also got a few plain goofy things that will need larger patches to fix like World War Africa featuring 40 Italian divisions and 50 German divisions and 20 Spanish divisions fighting in Central Africa and the Sahara desert.
What HoI4 has done right are technologies, doctrines and production. Fucking nailed them, to be honest. Trade is a bit ambiguous and I'm not sure I like synthetic factories as they are currently implemented, but the actual system of production, training and such is far, far superior as a template to start with than what HoI3 had. The main drawback that will be difficult to fix is how rough the Battle Plan system is even after taking an extra year to polish it.

Theres some factual errors but generally I agree.
And lest we forget you had to buy Semper Fi, For the Motherland, and Their Finest hour to get alot of the things that made HOI3 superior.

With 475 hours in HOI3 and maybe 4 in HOI4, I have to say I am pleasantly surprised and excited to sink many more hours into HOI4. In my *personal opinion* HOI4 vanilla is more fleshed out than HOI3 was after all of its expansions.
I can't wait to see what kinds of expansions we get!

Or, you know, people who really liked the mechanics of 3 for the most part and were hoping for an improved version of that instead of HoI: EU edition.
Take the sea and air battle system, production, and variants from IV, put them in 3 and spend the rest of the money on a functional AI and it's damn near the perfect game.

Yea in my game as Italy, Germany couldn't handle Denmark. DENMARK! Then Declared War on Norway. Still struggling with Denmark. Then Declared War on Sweden? Okay I guess Germany is getting ambitious. Whatever, but still struggling with Denmark, and hasn't sent one division to norway. Then.... Declared War on who??? F*cking Finland. At war with all of scandinavia... Still struggling with good old Denmark. gg Denmark.

I agree that we need a simplified terrain mapmode, it is difficult to see the different types of terrain, especially hilly terrain. Forest and Urban are easy to see, hilly terrain has no distinguishing feature other than their unevenness.
