So I take it you played HOI4 with BICE ?
Thats pretty bad because if even BICE cant fix it whats left?

A modder can only tweak things around the edges. We can't do muchabout the bad formulas, the exe files, the ai files, etc. We have access to the defines files but without seeing the calculation formulas for things like air or naval combat we have to guess at values based upon what we see in the defines, adjust those, and hope we see better performance.

BICE and other mods can do wonderful things with content, events, units, tech, etc, but we can't stop the AI from being stupid. It just boggles my mind that these issues can't be seen thru in-house testing, and I am way past the do the testing for us and send us your saves mantra. Pay some people to do in-house testing. I didn't sign up for post release beta testing for issues that shouldn't have gotten out the front door at release, much less after 2 patches. You try to be patient because after 35 years of gaming you know nothing is perfect but patience has a limit. PDS' rep has taken a hit with this release.

I'm so sorry but I do not understand "PDS' rep"

Their reputation as a game publishing company, in that they are developing a reputation for releasing cludgy, buggy games that take several major patches and multiple DLC to make the game worth playing. I for one will never a buy pre-release package from them after HOI4. PDS can make great games in theory and eventually the games are usually fun after a year or so of patches. But they devote far too few resources to in-house testing imo, instead relying on their customer base to do post release testing for free. Great money saving business strategy for a small company, until you piss off your customers enough they stop being customers.

I bought "March of the Eagles" (which I expected with great anticipation) and after one hour of gaming on the British side, I found myself in a chase with the Grand Army that has landed in Ireland!!

Do you think I should do the same with HoI 4, throw it in the garbage?

Meh, it is already on your account. If it isn't fun now, come back to it after more hot patches and 1.3 is released. Eventually PDS will fix the remaining issues, I hope.

Pffff ... What a pity!

one question: ( excuse my ignorance) but I have a doubt about the OOB definition? Is this Order of Battle?

You are of course correct.

You make a point, Safe-Keeper, but anyway I notice:

HoI3 a complicated game ? Yes... for a young public but certainly not for adults like we are. And that's make of HoI a hit with a public who wish to stay between adult and not with a myriad of kids that does not make a difference between HoI an "Assassin's Greed".

Complicate?... Perhaps but, take for example BI... Well, this mod makes not only the immersion in WW2 more accurate, but also makes the management more harder which does not prevent the mod to have a great success.
I think that the designers wanted to reach a younger public that, on the contrary of an adult one, is more attracted by arcades type games on detriment to authenticity of a good WW2 simulationin game.

In these conditions, way not play Risk or Axis and Allies?

I stopped taking your opinion seriously after reading this. Some of you history nuts that complain about this game drive me up the wall. 'The games ahistoric!' I hear this a lot, this is one of the things i like about the game, some really batshit crazy things can happen and honestly that's more fun then playing the same damn war over and over and over again. So you wanted hoi3.5? Basically the same game but prettier? You know what other game does this, call of duty. But that's a kids game for the unwased masses? Seriously dude, get off your high horse.

The oob from hoi3 was clunky, annoying, unfun and tedious. I'm glad it's gone along with those stupid counters. (Really don't know why people love these so much, never played with them even in hoi2.)

Hoi3 was a god awful mess, it was 'complex' for the sake of being complex and in the end left it feeling more shallow then hoi4 is now.

Yes the Ai needs work, i agree and yes more content is also welcome, but it's not that bad. This eco-chamber circle jerk is annoying.

And to the guy complain about the 3D map, this is the best and prettiest map paradox has ever done, why have three map mods when you only need one. I don't get how it's a downside.

Imo, hoi2 and darkest hour are still the best hoi games.

It is distressing to meet on a forum some people who do not support a controversial discussion :(

Now I took position on aligning myself to Paradox that presents itself as a Development Company with the principle of having for his products a historical content rigorous as possible. That is, if I may say so, its brand of sales.

Therefore, it is entirely legitimate thinking to be deceived on the product.

HOI 3 was the next logical progression after HOI 2. Its problem was that they put in an extra 2,000 provinces which made it harder to manage. HOI 4 changed the game to the point where it's like playing a different game. A few good changes, and many poor ones.

I think that the AI is not going to be any better than this

Currently the AI just cant proper handle simple things, like the shortest trade rout betwen two countries.

when paradox try to 'simplify' the gameplay they realy aim to limit the player choices and make
the player more dependent of some AI harcoded routines in order to keep the chalenge for the
new players.

I spent many hours playing this game and just cant figure why some basic mechanics arent yet
fixed in the paths realeased so far.

Hoi 4 put the focus on Multiplayer and that is where the game shines. The ai is bad yes but but im sure you would flame even more if it would steamroll you every game. How many germanys have i seen now that left a mp game because france is not as much of a cakewalk as it is vs ai.
The Ai right now is actually quite good at fighting a losing war. It's able to keep a balanced front and not get encircled. Im sure if offensive battle plans were not such a mess it would be better on offense too.

The 'Multiplayer' trade paths are the same as the 'Singleplayer' trade paths , they are chosen by some bugged code and just favors some contrys over others, so what the point of playing 'Multiplayer' if the AI makes critical game choices and put you at disanvantage?

It is distressing to meet on a forum some people who do not support a controversial discussion :(

Now I took position on aligning myself to Paradox that presents itself as a Development Company with the principle of having for his products a historical content rigorous as possible. That is, if I may say so, its brand of sales.

Therefore, it is entirely legitimate thinking to be deceived on the product.

I have no problem having a controversial discussion, but it's not much of a discussion if everyone talking all agree with one another, that is what they call a eco-chamber.

I would say what paradoxes brand is, they make strategy games set in a wide range of time periods that you can play through and forge your own path through human history. That is why i play paradox games, not because they railroad me through 1000 years of human history. If ever ck2 game was the same, it wouldn't have done so well over the years.

The 'Multiplayer' trade paths are the same as the 'Singleplayer' trade paths , they are chosen by some bugged code and just favors some contrys over others, so what the point of playing 'Multiplayer' if the AI makes critical game choices and put you at disanvantage?
I really dont get what your talking about. Expecting to trade lots of ressources when at war and not losing convoys is naive. Build some convoys or dont trade overseas.

You can also build a ton of sythetic plants and get oil+rubber for free. I do that every game as Germany.

Edit: it is also not paradox' fault if you decide that their games follow some principles and then get disappointed that they do not. I don't think pdx ever said they want their games to be rigorously historical. Afaik they suggested quite the contrary with their prerelease coverage (hey, daniel always won)

Well, that's the thing. Some of us don't like batshit crazy things happening in a game that's supposedly set in the real world.

Im sure you are rolling over everyone as luxemburg in multiplayer since a hardcore player like you is so much better than these masses.
