I dropped out of Ck2 some time ago with all the focus started to shift more and more to an earlier date and less and less on European court politics and Crusades. I'm not seeking another "Yes, but there is Crusader in the title so the game should be about the Crusades!!!!1111oneoneoneleven" threats, it's just the part of this epoch that I found the most interesting. Last I remember was that Crusades were quite silly and never resulted in the Crusader states being established (but a random HRE/France blob in the middle east for a wile).

So the question is: have the past few patches (and Conclaves which I am eyeing) made the 1066 Europe start more interesting? Or have the Crusades been completely forgotten about?

I really don't think crusades have been changed for a long time. Sons of abraham added request crusade from the pope I guess?

But to the questions, I find conclave made 1066 very interesting if at the very least for how much difference there is to the game, and yeah crusades being completely forgotten about is kind of accurate

Well, the Pope now loves to call Crusades for Kingdoms in India, while Egypt/Syria/Mesopotamia/Persia/Arabia/Abyssinia still have Muslin or Heretics rulers...

In short, no.
Not since 1.06..or 1.04 or whatever it was. Well i don't recall anything of note.

I hope they save it for a last DLC at least......as gimmick and torturing us who would like it now.

They might simply not know how to make it work properly.
Don't ask me, i have no idea. ;)

Regarding Conclave and court politics...well i don't have the DLC, but from what i gather it was the
idea behind it, but failed. More or less pointless-feature creep. That's my educated guess.

Though in a way you have to actually engage with them and you might actually learn their names for once...
Actually that's something i recognised always happened in CK1, while in CK2 i don't even know my characters' name.

Apparently Crusade targeting is getting fixed, so no more BS Crusades for India. But I doubt we'll ever see true Crusader states.

Even when somebody actually manages to win a Crusade, they lose the land pretty much straight after. When a Jihad is declared on a title just recently taken by Crusade, all Catholic rulers should be asked to join the war. Many of the Crusades launched after the first were to defend the Crusader States and modelling that by allowing Christian rulers to again intervene would at least allow independent Crusader States to have an actual chance of surviving for a couple decades.

I do actually experience several catholic countries supporting the Kingdom of Jerusalem in my games, the problem is that they take forever to get there, and get there with small armies (relative to the Muslim that is) at different times. Also the loss of the war means the loss of the entire area, making it a one-war thing. Perhaps the AI should be more inclined to do several small holy wars than one great jihad?

Not improving the crusade mechanics is my biggest gripe (as system was pretty much just copy/pasted from OG CK). Could have easily dedicated a DLC to it instead of Sunset/India, which just made the game overall worse.

I doubt Crusades will ever be looked at or improved, the devs just don't have the know how to improve any game mechanics.
No Bohemond taking Antioch and pissing everyone off, no Edessa being formed, no dynamic Sack of Jerusalem events, no events to get your second son or brother a county in the new and mostly vacant Kingdom. Everytime no one who actually took part in the Crusade gets any land. The list goes on and on of how much this game ISN'T "Crusader" Kings. It's barely even "Kings" after Conclave.

Surely the devs could have created a Kingdom of Jesusalem, Principality of Antioch, whichever, friendly, even allied to the power that created them, not Norway in Outremer. There are so many little events which could be added. Crusader Kings needs a Crusader dlc, maybe.

Seriously how hard can it be?
All you have to to do is give everyone who has over 10% war contribution at least one duchy in the kingdom (ranking from highest to lowest if there aren't enough duchies) and give the kingdom title to the highest war contribution. The tricky part would be to decide who actually gets each allotted portion of the kingdom, should it be the ruler, the heir to the to throne, firstborn, second, third, fourth? the family member in court with the highest prestige other than the ruler?
